I think January is the perfect month to experiment with art. And as much as I love color, I also love black & white/grayscale. It’s been well over a decade since I’ve done anything more than a rough sketch in graphite (regular pencil) and I think I’ve only done charcoal once or twice just as long ago! lol. So, I dug through my old supplies and did this 8”x10” rose with graphite and this little 4”x4” owl eye study in charcoal. I couldn’t find the paper I wanted for the charcoal so I just did this on the back of my cold press watercolor. This was so much fun that I think I’m going to experiment on some other papers & surfaces. I remember not really liking charcoal all those years ago but I loved it this time around! 😂 So, if you’ve tried a medium or style before and it didn’t go well, maybe give it another try. You never know.😉

My new YouTube video is finally finished and up! I show 2 ways how to transfer a sketch or line drawing to your finished project. I talk about pastel paper, since that's what I use most often, but these techniques work with other mediums, like transferring to canvas for an acrylic painting and more!
