Built in 1789, Historic Strawberry Mansion stood for more than a century before Mother’s Day — also founded in Philadelphia — became a national holiday in 1914.

Today we celebrate the generations of women, caretakers, volunteers, and community members whose love and dedication helped sustain this historic house for the future, because preservation is love in action. ❤️

Free Art Making Workshop
Saturday Nov 8
1-3pm

Come join us for a free, drop-in art making workshop! Led by artist Elizabeth Hamilton, participants will be able to design and paint their own custom paper plate, inspired by the dinnerware in Strawberry Mansion’s collection. All ages are welcome; children must be accompanied by an adult.

If weather allows, this workshop will be held on the Mansion’s back patio, so please dress appropriately. Materials are provided and registration is recommended. To register, please fill out this form.

This workshop celebrates the opening of Elizabeth Hamilton’s current exhibit Descendants: Paper Plate Recreations of the Tucker-Hemphill China Collection, located on the first floor of the Mansion. On exhibit from now until August 2026, the works examine the nature of legacy and permanence through paper plate recreations of the Mansion’s renown Tucker-Hemphill porcelain collection.

Special event this weekend! Saturday, May 31, presenter Cara Schneider Bongiorno will bring one of her Philly History Pop Ups to the mansion this Saturday, May 31 at 1 PM. Cara's engaging presentations bring to light new stories for frequent visitors and first-timers alike. Rove through the rooms of Historic Strawberry Mansion in Fairmount Park, hearing “pop up” stories about themes central to the house: the Sesquicentennial of 1926, Abolition, women saving the day, and “interesting twists on places you know.” Program ends with coffee, tea & pastries! Come sit and sip! This weekend features two of our holiday tea services, Saturday and Sunday from noon to 3. Tea served on antique china, with additional light refreshments and gifts for sale. $5/a person, no reservations necessary.

All week long we’re spotlighting groups participating in this year’s . Today: Alvéole! Alvéole are a company who set up and maintain urban beehives for clients. Along with our old friends the Philly Beekeepers Guild, Alvéole will be bringing activities and handouts to teach festival attendees all about bees and beekeeping. We’re happy to have them joining the festival for the first time this year! Come get to know them this Saturday!
