We are committed to building a society that values freedom of thought, civil discourse, respect for all people and the essential pursuit of liberty. From our home in Historic Philadelphia, the cradle of American democracy, the National Liberty Museum offers a contemporary perspective on the boldest, most innovative concept in America history: that liberty is - and must be - a shared pursuit if it is ever truly to be "for all."

"We’ve forgotten how to disagree — and that’s a problem for democracy."

In her new Op-Ed for The Philadelphia Inquirer, our President & CEO Alaine K. Arnott explores how polarization is eroding our ability to engage in meaningful dialogue — and why liberty depends on our willingness to listen, question, and connect across divides.

At the National Liberty Museum, we’re answering this challenge with Let’s Talk: Confronting What Divides Us, a new exhibition that puts conversation at the center of civic life.
