"Frankenstein" returns to the Mütter Museum! Beginning this Saturday, September 5, join us for this electrifying pop-up exhibit highlighting the world of Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein."

This seasonal pop-up is included with Museum admission. It will run every Saturday from September 5 to November 7 (except September 26), from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Spots are limited, so sign up at the front desk to reserve yours on eligible Saturdays. What does it mean to be a "freak?" During much of the 19th and early 20th centuries, the answer was simple: having a physical disability or being "atypical" in a way people would pay to see.

Join us for our Meet & Geek on October 8 to explore the "freak show," which was once a dominant force in American popular entertainment. This was the era of the "four-legged girl," the "bearded lady," and the "two-headed nightingale."

These were people with extraordinary anatomies who performed or were displayed in traveling sideshows or big-top circus tents. Whether or not their audience realized it, the "freak" was a constructed persona; the real people behind the costumes and stage names were so much more.

In this illustrated talk with local author and journalist Kim Kelly, we'll meet some of the real women behind the sideshow banners and dive into the complex lives these "strange girls" led on and offstage.

In recognition of National Immunization Awareness Month this August, we are spotlighting a special item from the collection of Dr. Richard and Rosalind Berman.

Vaccination shields like this one, used in the late 1800s and early 1900s, kept infant patients from scratching their healing skin after inoculation against smallpox.

This training will provide Museum visitors with a high-level understanding of the skills needed to recognize cardiac arrest and assist with CPR.

No pre-registration is required. Visit the Museum at noon to take advantage of this skill-building opportunity!
