This piece by Jon Poblador titled, Composition No. 53, is featured in his solo exhibition 'Chapel of Color' at Bridgette Mayer Gallery. On this significance on this piece, Jon states:
"The red feels strong, grounded, almost unshakable. But its presence depends on everything around it—the muted tones that soften it from below and the quiet structure that holds it in balance. Those colors had to be chosen carefully. The canvas was originally oriented horizontally, with the bands running vertically. But turning it this way gave the composition more weight.
“The teacup is already broken.” A Zen saying that reminds us nothing is truly fixed, no matter how solid it seems. Colors, like all things, exist in constant relationship with their surroundings. Shift one, and the whole balance changes.
This painting reminded me of that idea. Strength and stillness. Contrast and harmony. The way perception shifts, even when the form remains the same."
Take a moment for quiet reflection this week and pop by to see Chapel of Color in person. We're here Tuesdays-Saturdays, 10am-5pm.
