Love this reflection from Shanna Compton on her visit to see Tim McFarlane exhibition at ZAM ! Here’s a snippet:

“As expected—I loved being in a room with these tri-forms. But then I met the new work and was blown away. The unstretched canvas and other fabric pieces in Another Day, Another Way are entirely new to me...There are layers of acrylic paint lending dimension and texture to the front, and also this mostly hidden underlayer of woven florals, that lends a domestic, utilitarian, and kind of lived-in/remnant ambiance to the piece. It’s part painter’s drop cloth, part royal robe, and then also, amusingly part couch?”

Antonio Puri Joins
Bridgette Mayer Gallery

Bridgette Mayer Gallery is pleased to announce the United States representation of Indian artist Antonio Puri (b.1966, Chandigarh,India).

Antonio Puri is an abstract and mixed media artist whose work draws inspiration from the intersections of his Eastern roots and his Western experiences. He experiments extensively with natural pigments, ink, oil, beads, sand, text, canvas, wood panels and unique visual anchors like mandalas composed of thousands of fingerprints.

Puri has recently shared: "My expression of the self continuously evolves in an effort to challenge perceptions and deconstruct identifying labels used by others. Constructs of different aspects of the self are limited; is my existence a microcosm within the universe or do I make art that transcends individuality to connect with Oneness? Are all descriptions of who I am truly encompassing? My art comes from personal expression. It is multilayered and complex with veneers, glazes, varnishes of emotions, transgressions, singularity, obsession, and enigma. I am interested in comparing connections between my eastern roots and my western experiences. I embrace the possibility that we can exist in a world free from labels."

This April, Bridgette Mayer Gallery will present a solo exhibition of Puri's mixed media works from his Ta**ra series in it's Philadelphia Gallery. new paintings by the artist at Concurrently, Puri will have a solo exhibition in Bangkok, Thailand organized MATDOT, Blacklist Gallery.

We have some GORGEOUS new works hung in our lower level by gallery artist Antonio Puri. These works are made up of thousands tiny glass beads and absolutely need to be seen in person. Stop by during gallery hours and inquire about viewing these works and we would be happy to show you!

Wow! What an amazing turn out last night for our exhibition New Talent. Our artists traveled from near and far to celebrate surrounded by their gorgeous body of work amongst new and old friends, collectors, and supporters! The show is on view NOW - December 19th. Make sure to stop in to see the works in person.

The gallery is open by appointment on Tuesday, and 10:00-5:00 Wednesday-Saturday!

"I find joy in painting. This joy stems from both the physical act of creating and the visual exploration of color, dynamic composition, layering, and biomorphic abstraction. Working primarily in water-based media, I start with visual notations that evolve organically through play and experimentation. I often make small collages and paintings on paper to generate new combinations of color and shape alongside making larger paintings. This process-driven, intuitive approach yields surprising visual amalgamations. Inspiring this work are quilts, microscopic forms, gardens, architecture, music, and dance. Lyrical gestures and anthropomorphic shapes emerge as I paint, resulting in works that feel animated, musical, and emotionally resonant."
