James Oliver Gallery (JOG), which opened its doors in late 2006, aims to be a leader in the presentation of contemporary art in the Philadelphia area. An appealing and lively forum in Philadelphia's Center City, the gallery looks to shatter rigid notions of artistic presentation. Featuring exciting modernist furniture and beautiful views through 19th century fourth floor windows, JOG creates a rel
axing environment where patrons are encouraged to convene, socialize, and discuss art. James Oliver, an established painter and musician, oversees all aspects of the gallery. His personal style synthesizes the modern and the minimal, creating a clean aesthetic in his own artworks.

"I sit at the fountain in the early morning of summer swelter, where I notice the ripples refracting the particular shade of green pond scum into a kaleidoscope of forms. They intersect with that of the blue sky and its clouds, the yellow underlight of the tree leaves, and the fluorescence of the blossoms on the nearby bush that usher the joyful meeting."
Willful exuberance. These images measure such encounters and give full account of each of its sensations.
The works of Birtwistle, Kaplan, and Nutini find us at this refreshing scene of highly considered, graphic taxonomy of natural wonders and their heightened expression.
Park Water will be on view from 6/29-7/27 – not to be missed!

Thanks for the 📸
Julia Policastro’s creations exist as enigmatic objects that transcend the conventional labels of painting or sculpture. Her artistic language merges the two forms and aims to dissolve the distinction that often constrains each medium. The outcome is a series of objects that function as portals into invented scenarios and scenery. By employing canvas, oil paint, foam, and plaster, Policastro gives permanence to these alternative realities and draws from a reservoir of
imagery deeply rooted in visual history and our collective familiarity. The juxtaposition of the plaster frame with the oil paint challenges the purpose and functionality of each element.
View more work from Julia in our upcoming exhibition Luster, opening May 18th.

Jason Andrew Turner Longing Anthem, 2022 Acrylic on Canvas 36” x 48” Jason’s paining, “Longing Anthem” is featured in our show Superfluid, alongside Jason Chen and Maija Miettinen, open through 8/13. Hailing from Birmingham, AL, Jason Andrew Turner uses repetitive mark making in concert with coded color theory to engage in themes of mental health, cause and effect, psychic connection, and play. Working mostly in water based materials, almost always with an element of sumi ink, Turner’s abstract works dance between the mechanical and spiritual. The work focuses on the concrete and the ethereal questions that determine our existence and connectivity, thus contrasting memory and experience through the lens of meditation and the unconscious. #artoftheday #phillyartgallery #jamesolivergallery #artcollectors
Dreamscape of Jason Chen’s work! We always love the chance to spend a little time with the artists’ work before hanging. @thatchinesekid ‘s photo weavings obscure the concept of time, and in the airy space of the gallery, leave us a bit contemplative. Come see Superfluid, on view beginning 6/18.
Working for the weekend…literally, because Superfluid is this Saturday! We’ve been working nonstop this week to bring you guys a very cool new show, we are so excited for Saturday and can’t wait to show you what we have in store. Opening reception will be this Saturday 6/18 from 6-9pm with drinks sponsored by @two_robbers cheers everyone!

Our favorite architect and designer turned artist @thelisaroberts will be giving an artist talk this Saturday at 6:30pm We cannot wait for her to share her story with all of you! We hope to see you there!
Originally trained as an architect, @thelisaroberts found a greater passion for graphic and product design. Over three decades, she designed in the gift and home furnishing markets for more than 50 diverse manufacturers. Intermittently, Lisa took breaks from designing and wrote four books about contemporary product design: Antiques of the Future, DesignPOP, Mr. Waffles Loves Design, and What is Good Design: A simple question without a simple answer. She was also featured in a TV docu-series titled, “My Design Life.” In 2020, during the pandemic, Lisa’s work changed direction again. She let go of the constraints of product and architecture, and evolved into abstract art. With her love of color and working in cut paper, she found respite in abstraction. “The distinguishing features of my work are the medium of cut paper collage and the graphic colors.”, Lisa explains. Hear the rest of Lisa’s account as she discusses her work next Saturday, May 21st, during our Trajectories artist talk. 723 Chestnut Street, 4th floor, Phila. PA 19106 Start time - 6:30pm
A little time lapse of us installing @thelisaroberts’s pieces “Fiesta in Orange” and “Fiesta in Blue” last night 🔨📏 «Trajectories» opens THIS SATURDAY evening // 6-9pm — we will be accepting all walk-ins! Can’t wait to see all of you here 🌟
Get to know the artists of our new duo exhibition «Trajectories» opening this Saturday, April 16, 2022 🌟 @thelisaroberts & @matthewborgen_artist are quite the unlikely pair at first glance, but we had a vision when we saw their works and set things in motion. Though different in their approach and medium, both Lisa’s cut paper pieces and Matthew’s prints are visual narratives of their individual environments and confrontations. See for yourself at the opening reception this Saturday evening from 6-9pm 💌 🎥 @creativesynergymedia
