On view now! Anna Wehrwein’s solo exhibition, “Tender Ground”, at Pentimenti until March 8th.

This exhibition includes both paintings and works on paper. Anna’s paintings evolve in unexpected ways, beginning with dynamic color fields, followed by layers of imagery influenced by the vibrant and shifting foundation. Among her works on paper, Anna selected Color-Aid paper for three pieces, intentionally leaving parts of the surface exposed to emphasize her deliberate choices of paper colors, which remain visible beneath rich surfaces of charcoal or colored pencil.

PRESS | ART SPIEL: "Art Spiel Picks: Philly Exhibitions in February 2025” | Anna Wehrwein

Excited to share that "Tender Ground", Anna Wehrwein’s solo exhibition at Pentimenti, was selected in "Art Spiel Picks: Philly Exhibitions in February 2025". Thank you to Art Spiel and Claire Haik for reviewing this stunning exhibition!

Don’t miss the chance to experience “Tender Ground”, on view through March 8.

“Quiet moments make up most of our lives, yet they often pass unnoticed. Anna Wehrwein’s "Tender Ground" draws focus to these overlooked experiences of everyday life, exploring “moments of care and acts of tenderness.” Many of her paintings depict solitary figures at rest or in reflection. Their averted gazes and obscured faces somehow amplify their intimacy.”

Focusing on Natalie Kuenzi’s work in our current two-person exhibition, “Beauty We Forge”. Pentimenti will be open late tonight for Old City Gallery Walk! Stop by and explore the show—our doors are open until 7 p.m. See you soon!
Natalie Kuenzi’s work challenges the traditional boundaries between high and low art, examining how these distinctions shape contemporary artistic practices. Using extracted materials to create her work, she focuses on the resilience of nature surrounding her, exploring its influence and significance in her creative process. This interplay intensifies the tension between the fixed and the free, drawing parallels between natural and supernatural forces.

Highlighting the work by Emmanuela Soria Ruiz in our current two-person exhibition “Beauty We Forge”.

Emmanuela Soria Ruiz’s drawings and wall sculptures explore the concept of paratext, presenting a layered narrative that invites viewers to interpret their own meaning and response. Drawing inspiration from Baroque theatrical scenography, gardens, and choreographic notation, Emmanuela incorporates these elements into her sculptures (made from steel and printed fabrics) and her drawings (ink on paper). All these classical myths are retold in a way that resonates with the struggles of feminist liberation in the modern day. She traces a landscape of abundance and transformation—capturing the universe in continuous movement and the impact of women.

Warm Thanksgiving Wishes! Pentimenti is closed on Thanksgiving Day.

Anne Buckwalter’s work investigates gender identity and the complexities of interpersonal relationships. Drawing inspiration from the folk art traditions of her Pennsylvania Dutch background, she arranges varied objects within enigmatic domestic settings and ambiguous spaces. The artist delves into how the commonplace setting of the home can quietly hold moments of forbidden desire, revealing the unseen layers of domestic life.

This week, we're featuring Raúl Romero's work in “To Be Bound By Place and Lore”.

Raúl's practice explores the intercommunication between people and their environment through sculptural sound installation.

“Beneath the Surface: Transcendental Rhythm in 6/8” explores the transformation of a utilitarian object, such as a Remo drum wrapped in Ghillie, into vessels for sound. The work uncovers their potential for versatility.

“Beneath the Surface: Transcendental Aspiration” installation on view features a four-channel immersive experience where hand-hammered copper forms act as acoustic transducers, producing metallic tonal qualities that shape a unique auditory landscape.
