Thank you to for highlighting Paradigm Gallery, our expansion of our physical space, as well as our expanding global online presence.

“In April 2023, Philadelphia’s Paradigm Gallery + Studio purchased its five-story, 7,000-square-foot location after 13 years of renting. It inaugurated the space with a pair of solo exhibitions from its represented artists Nazeer Sabree and Jason Andrew Turner, taking place over two floors. The milestone opening kicked off a new era for the gallery—an enthusiasm it intended to share with an international audience. “It was an exciting moment documenting the new gallery and updating our profile to share our beautiful new home with our Artsy audience,” said co-founder Sara McCorriston.”

That time we were alumni guest table hosts at The University of the Arts’ 140th Anniversary Creative Black Tie Gala with print outs of our faces all around the table. Grateful to have met each other through cross discipline collaboration in our two different colleges at the university back around 2006-07 (one day we’ll figure out when it all started exactly). Grateful to all the talented artists we met there that made us want to start Paradigm in the first place, from visual artists to performance artists. Thinking about all of the students, teachers, and staff in shock right now. Hard to imagine the university buildings on South Broad Street ever being anything else. A lot of thoughts and feelings at the moment, processing.

We are thrilled to announce Ben Venom’s () first exhibition with Paradigm in Philly! We have long-admired the artist’s work and this September his artwork will be on our walls alongside artwork by returning artist, Dennis McNett ()! Even though the exhibition is in September, we are offering opportunities to collect before that in the form of an art auction (Philadelphia Eagles fans, this one is especially for you) and tickets for a custom patch event at Paradigm. The sales from both will be put towards the artist’s travel and stay during his first ever visit to this city!
Use the “Ben Venom Collector Preview” link in our profile to get first access to these opportunities in the coming weeks and to be the first to collect from September’s show when the time comes. The link also leads you to the first view of the collaborative artist-made tote bag 🦅 that we will be auctioning off soon (scroll to the bottom after following the link) Let the excitement and anticipation begin!

“Deep Breath” Artist Spotlight: Roche Cruchon ( )

Roche is an artist from France who now lives in the Mediterranean basin. They explore the intersection of virtual and physical realities, embracing their ever-changing nature. As part of “Deep Breath” Roche created a series titled “Wild Seeds” made with bright and expressive wax pastels:

“I have been inspired by Spring blooming out in the mountains around my city and felt like the overall compositions in my drawings reflected some small moments of connection I have had with the land recently.“

We’ve received many requests and as a result this exhibition has been extended! Artwork by and will be on display through June 23rd.

“Deep Breath” Artist Spotlight: Linnéa Andersson ()

In her paintings, Linnéa Andersson has an ongoing investigation of how to describe an emotion without words. Working from her studio in Gothenburg, Sweden, she is mediating a human language without a human expression, through the shapes and forms of an abstract leaf. The leaves speak to Linnéa, writing her diary through their wobbly shapes and the space in between them and the outline of the canvas.

“Deep Breath” Artist Spotlight: Carla Weeks ()

Carla is a British born painter and muralist based in Midcoast Maine. Informed by her personal interactions with both the natural landscape and built environment, she utilizes abstraction to navigate through the physical and emotional experience of place. Employing a distinct shape vocabulary to formally explore color relationships, her paintings articulate the shifting nuances of sensory memory.

The Winter Grid paintings that are part of “Deep Breath” examine the passage of time over a Maine winter. Almost calendar-like in their order, the floating grids evoke the rhythms and routines we slip into during the least social months of the year. Each day flows into the next, introducing familiar patterns with subtle variations. Layers of transparent color meld with vaporous texture to comment on the fleeting and predictable cadence of days and nights. After a period of slowing down, meditative looking and listening, and the establishment of habits, we once again welcome the disruption and variability of spring.

Today in the Inquirer’s Arts & Culture Section: “First Fridays in Old City are back!”

Thank you for highlighting Paradigm’s move to Old City and the strengthening of the tradition of the neighborhood’s First Fridays. We’re humbled to be part of it all and honored that our presence has been highlighted in this way!

Here are a few snippets from the article. Link in our profile to read it in full.

“The turnout and the increased interest in First Fridays, [Nazeer Sabree] said, is a sign of a new phase in the Philly arts community. “Philadelphia is having its Harlem Renaissance,” Sabree said. “There’s a lot of talent in the city, and they’re not creating work just to create work. They’re creating meaningful things.”

“Arts curator Ginger Rudolph said Paradigm Gallery and similar spaces have broken the barriers of exclusivity seen at more traditional museums and arts venues through their efforts. Along with opening new pathways for artists of color, they are attracting a newer and larger audience of art consumers.”

“Kate VanVliet of BYO Print said the work of McCorriston and others is turning Old City back into the premiere location. “We’re stepping into this place where people are looking for culture in Old City,” said VanVliet, a longtime collaborator with Paradigm Gallery. “It has historic value in Philadelphia and a part of the country, so it’s exciting to be a part of that.”

“This is just the start, McCorriston said.” (and I mean it!)

Grateful to Erica Jackson of Soho House for encouraging us (Ginger & Sara) to have this intimate discussion about how we’ve learned to support each other over our 14 years of friendship and as business partners. We talked about our experiences as two women with different backgrounds facing separate challenges in a competitive—and not always inclusive—field. We talked about how we’ve had to encourage each other to be in the spotlight along the way because it can be so hard and unnatural to do it ourselves—even the simple act of confidently owning the success of years of hard work can be difficult to wrap our brains around at times.
Sitting down and talking about all of it honestly with an engaged and supportive audience from our shared community felt like a good first step! This is just the beginning!

Thanks for this beautiful opportunity and partnership !

Announcing our upcoming May exhibition, “Deep Breath” featuring artwork by Linnéa Andersson (), Carla Weeks (), Roche Cruchon (), and Sophie Roach ().

The change of seasons is a good time to reflect on the passage of time and consider how we’re all spending ours. To explore the levels of happiness, rest, and discovery that we are opening our lives up to. To find balance where it is needed.

This exhibition has been curated to encourage ‘slow art viewing’ experiences. Meaning we want you to get lost in the art that’s in front of you, let any pressures of life slip away, enjoy springtime sunlight coming in through the gallery windows, and take in the colors that it reveals to us on the walls.

These four talented artists have created collections to take us on a journey, to a place where we can get away from it all for a bit to reflect and breathe without concern about the passage of time. Let’s be in the moment together.

Join us Friday, May 3rd, 6-8pm. Link to the press release in our bio. DM us or email for collector preview requests.

We’re building a playlist for the opening and to play throughout the show. If there is any music that particularly helps you breathe and center yourself, please let us know and share for everyone in the comments. We’re leaning towards instrumental music so far but we’re open to all suggestions and inspirations.

“The Pledge, American Dreamin” by Eustace Mamba (swipe for all of the intricate painted, assembled, and sewn details)

Counting down the hours until THIS FRIDAY when “The Magic Number” opens! We’ll be introducing you to each artist one by one throughout the exhibition.

Today’s featured artist: Eustace Mamba (.mamba)

Influenced by his West Indian heritage and Manhattan upbringing, Eustace’s interdisciplinary artistic practice spans painting, sculpture, experimental design, and digital media. Through the integration of everyday objects, his recent work delves into themes of Black Subjectivity and Afro-Pessimism, challenging colonial image norms and symbolizing unity with the recurring motif of thread.

Eustace sees his artistic dialogue as a scientist’s exploration, unveiling new dimensions within himself and inviting viewers to contemplate the complexities of contemporary society.

“Black Subjectivity and Afro-Pessimism continue to influence my art as I strive to deviate from colonial image norms. Threads connect the images, symbolizing unity and societal forces. Like a scientist, I engage in an ongoing dialogue of discovery, to uncover new dimensions within myself.” –Eustace Mamba

“The Magic Number” opens Friday, March 1st at Paradigm, curated by Ginger Rudolph () featuring artwork by Caff Adeus (), Kendra Dandy (), Akira Gordon (), Devon Harrison (), Eustace Mamba (.mamba), Jordan Plain (), and Qiaira Riley ().

Send us a DM or email to request the digital collector preview for the exhibition ahead of Friday’s opening reception.

Fourteen years and four buildings later.

What’s the best way to celebrate our 14th Anniversary AND Jason Chen’s birthday??? Help guarantee we have a 15th, 16th, 17th (you get it) anniversary and collect some art!

Real talk: Whenever art sales are steadily coming in, financial stress reduces (for us and our artists) and we get to focus that saved energy on curation, collaboration, and programming. Plus, you get artwork for forever out of the deal! Everyone wins!

So if you’ve been meaning to explore our latest collections or if you’ve had your eye on a piece and you’ve been waiting to take the leap, take a big jump into our anniversary celebration by making it official!

We’ll be posting a selection of the pieces we’re currently most excited about in our stories all day.

Other ways you can support Paradigm:

-Get tickets to an upcoming event or workshop (see our IG stories highlight “Classes/Events” for upcoming programming)

-Send a thank you of any amount via Venmo. (paradigmgallery) or comment ‘Happy 14th’ to get a direct link. If everyone seeing this sent even just a dollar, it would really add up!

-Shoutout and support all small businesses whenever you have a chance. Every dollar you spend at Paradigm has a positive ripple effect throughout the community — from our local Philadelphia community to our global arts community. Not to mention, it helps us stay free and open to the general public year round so everyone can experience and enjoy art no matter what your budget.

Thank you for 14 amazing years and counting! We couldn’t do this without you.❤️

New artwork day! Pictured piece: “Coast Starlight Train (Night)” by Adrian Kay Wong ()

Adrian rode the Coast Starlight Train for his Jaunt trip experience. I’ve always wanted to take this trip myself and the artist’s description and resulting limited edition prints makes me want to pursue it even more. Here are some excerpts: “I’ve never taken an extended train ride like this before so I tried my best just to be present in the moment and be observant to the events that would inevitably unfold before me. [ . . . ] It was meditative in many ways to observe the gradient of cities dissipating and rural expanses appear. To catch moments of city life as well as uninterrupted or disturbed nature felt like a quiet story unfolding before me, like a little secret that is confided to only those who take the time to sit and look. [ . . . ] I think what surprised me the most was the general atmosphere and demeanor of passengers. We can forget how normalized the efficiency of flying is. [ . . . ] Within the first ten minutes of taking my seat on the train, there were conversations between strangers of where they’re going, what they do, talks of family and seeing friends. The impression I had was that the tension and anxiety one often feels when flying was relatively absent in the train. That physical and mental claustrophobia was replaced by a general casualness. [ . . .] I returned to my first day sitting in the viewing car and just watching the scenery change. It was a calmness that I don’t often afford myself. But with book in hand and headphones on, that stillness was captivating.” ()
