An exhibition of paintings by Eileen Tichauer is an immersion in the dynamics of form, structure and color, whose primary claim to authenticity is the effortless, seemingly casual sense of inevitability☀️

Works on paper by Motoko Oyamada are elaborations in finite form that recall infinite transformation and metamorphosis. Her mark making is like the constant permutation of exquisite rock gardens. Her speculations on transpositions between the symbolic and the imaginary suggests the transmutation and fusing of elements. On view thru June 22☀️

What is remarkable with Takashi Ishibashi’s large and sumptuous mixed media works is the canny way he uses abstraction to demarcate a passage of time, it is the way that sense of futurity is depicted and felt, phenomenologically and ontologically.

Taeko Tsunoda’ works on paper are luminous examples of art which heightens fragmentation, sequencing and pacing. Using colors and tonal gradations the artist beckons the beholder to enter into private realms which co-exist, almost as parallel universes, within the same picture plane.

In her paintings inspired by the ocean, Susan Zatt applies organic materials onto somewhat circumspectly flat surfaces. The optical result is an insinuation of ground line or ground level. What hovers above is an open undifferentiated space. The meeting line between the two suggests a horizon line which stretches, at least in the mind’s eye, forever. Thus, the illusion of planar frontality and undifferentiated space and mass is confronted by the presence and weight of prima materiae, earthen source material. Illusionistic force is met head on with the implaccable real.
