Sandy Iseli’s images of nature are something that transcends time and space while still adhering to the here and now. This superimposition of the timely and the timeless in her work changes the traditional view of landscape as either purely a category of perception or as means to record with some exactitude indexical reality. Keeping her work alive and compelling is an outgrowth of the artist’s evident passion to paint nature as an ever-shifting panorama of potentiality and change.

Sandra Sider grew up in Appalachia, where quilts were the lodestone of creativity for her female relatives. Quilt culture and hand stitching have proved important for her works, in which cyanotype repurposes unfinished antique quilt tops into contemporary art. The artist’s current works address the semiquincentennial year of the United States and the controversies unfolding. These pieces in the format of crib quilts are intended to memoralize the children killed and wounded in the war.
