The acceptance of observable facts, objective structures, and photographic process is inseparable from the unmistakable presence of Nacho Cremona. It is this authorship that allows each image to transcend the specific moment, place, and subject it records. His photographs possess an almost ethnographic sensitivity to the cultural ethos embodied in people and places, while remaining fully conscious of photography’s own cultural language and conventions. In this way, Cremona’s work functions not only as a record of reality but as a meditation on memory, identity, place, and the enduring power of the photographic image.

Artifact Projects is located in the iconic Lower East Side of Manhattan next to the East Village. Steeped in history, the Lower East Side served as the first home for generations of immigrants arriving in America during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Over the decades, the area has also became synonymous with New York’s artistic and creative spirit. Legendary figures including Jean-Michel Basquiat, Madonna, Yoko Ono, Keith Haring, Robert De Niro, and Lady Gaga all lived here, helping to establish the neighborhood as a global center for art, music, fashion, and independent culture. Today, the Lower East Side is home to more than 100 art galleries, independent boutiques, vintage shops, restaurants and bars.

Our space is ideally situated on a culturally significant block that reflects the neighborhood’s identity. Within steps are three respected contemporary art galleries SBG Uffner & Liu Trotter&Sholer & Liu The block is further enhanced by a beautifully maintained public garden cared for by Bette Midler’s New York Restoration Project. Within a walking distance are celebrated cultural and culinary destinations: The Tenement Museum Int'l Center of Photography 🌭Katz's Delicatessen Mercury Music Lounge one of the city’s most music venues. It’s the center of one of New York City’s most authentic and inspiring neighborhoods where history, creativity, and contemporary urban life come together in a truly unique setting.
