Lyricist and librettist Alan Jay Lerner was born on this day in 1918!🎼 Alongside writing partner Frederick Loewe, he worked to create some of the most iconic musicals of the 1950s and 60s, including BRIGADOON, CAMELOT, PAINT YOUR WAGON, and MY FAIR LADY. He was nominated for five Tony Awards, winning twice: Best Musical for MY FAIR LADY, and Best Original Score for GIGI.
The grand piano shown here, on which he and Loewe wrote MY FAIR LADY, was passed down through the family of Broadway music director Hal Hastings before finding its home at The Museum of Broadway, on loan from The Broadway Legacy Foundation.

We’re shining a spotlight on the many internationally renowned artists who played a part in creating The Museum of Broadway!🎨
In our exhibit dedicated to THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, you’ll see a deconstructed chandelier made from thousands of crystals, created by Ulli Böhmelmann.
Böhmelmann’s artistic education began in architectural ceramics, with studies focused on sculptural ceramics/porcelain and site specific installation. Her work has been showcased in Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Netherlands, Japan, Russia, and the US, with international grants awarded for her site specific installations.  She is always in search of new materials and how to push their limits to transparency to realize her ideas. Tim Curry has sadly passed away at the age of 80.💔
He made his Broadway debut as Frank ‘N’ Furter in THE ROCKY HORROR SHOW in 1975 before starring in the film version later that year. He also appeared in TRAVESTIES, AMADEUS, MY FAVORITE YEAR, and SPAMALOT, pictured here.

The Museum of Broadway is deeply saddened to hear of the passing of 3-time Tony nominated scenic designer Anna Louizos. We worked closely with Anna in creating the Museum and her work is featured throughout. She designed our WEST SIDE STORY exhibit, loaned us her set models from AVENUE Q and IN THE HEIGHTS, and we sell items in our gift shop from Broadway Design Exchange, a company she created to showcase the work of talented designers and artisans.

Her prolific Broadway career also included THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD, SCHOOL OF ROCK (sets and costumes), HONEYMOON IN VEGAS (sets and projections), RODGERS AND HAMMERSTEIN’S CINDERELLA, HOLIDAY INN, DAMES AT SEA, IT SHOULDA BEEN YOU, IRVING BERLIN’S WHITE CHRISTMAS, HIGH FIDELITY, CURTAINS, THE PERFORMERS, BABY IT’S YOU, and more.
