Adam Savage Tours the MET's Last Knight Exhibit!

ADAM SAVAGE VISITED "THE LAST KNIGHT" AT THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM

American special-effects designer, producer and actor Adam Savage recently visited the exhibition “The Last Knight” at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and has posted an exciting video from his exhibition tour with curator Pierre Terjanian. In the video you can see the numerous loans from the Imperial Armoury of the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna, which traveled to New York for the spectacular show on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the death of Emperor Maximilian I, the "last knight". The video shows, for example the Field Armor of Emperor Maximilian I by Lorenz Helmschmid, the Pleated Skirt Harness for the young Emperor Charles V by Konrad Seusenhofer, an unfinished harness for Karl V by Hans Rabeiler and two mechanical chest pieces from the late 15th century.

The exhibition shows how Emperor Maximilian I, considered an ambitious European ruler at one of the turning points in world history, enforced his personal and dynastic goals through armaments and influenced contemporary politics.

The exhibition can be seen at the New York Met Museum until January 5, 2020.

„INTERNATIONAL STRATEGIES FOR MUSEUMS“ – A CONVERSATION IN SALZBURG

Yesterday, the International Friends of the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna and the Salzburg Stiftung of the American Austrian Foundation (AAF) invited an exclusive circle of guests to Schloss Arenberg in Salzburg, to attend a conversation with Sabine Haag, Director General of the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna and Martin Hochleitner, Director of the Salzburg Museum. The conversation was moderated by Beatrix Medinger, Past President of the Association of Professional Art Advisors and Vice-Chairman of the International Council of the MoMA The Museum of Modern Art.

The conversation’s topic was „International Strategies for Museums“. Directors Sabine Haag and Martin Hochleitner first gave a brief overview of their respective institutions, the collecting ranges and the most important collectors as well as their motives in putting the collections together.

In regards to programming the topic of audiences was discussed: What drives each of the museums‘ programming with respect to different groups of audiences, regarding e.g. their nationality, age, or other demographic factors? What sort of education programs are developed for each of those audience groups and how do the museums try to attract and target new international audiences?

THE ART OF BUSINESS LUNCHEON - WITH CONRAD JOHNSON

On March 21, the FACC Houston and RSM International once again hosted an "Art of Business Luncheon" in cooperation with the IFKHM. The event that took place at Chef Soren Pedersen’s (Chef Pedersen) in Houston featured Conrad Johnson from AWI Wines, who spoke about “The Accidental Winemaker”.

Johnson has brought a background rich in international experiences to his 37-year career as an auditor with independent accounting firms and to AWI Wines, which he started a decade ago. While on a visit to audit a client’s operations in Argentina in 2007, Conrad happened upon the Vines of Mendoza and the possibility to start a vineyard in the Uco Valley of the Mendoza region. With several other investors, AWI Wines was born, signifying what it is – A Wild Idea. From planting the first vines to harvesting, blending, and commercializing, AWI is a labor of love for Conrad, especially now that the wines have won awards in the International Wine Competition of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. The wines are found at restaurants and at AWI Winery of Texas.

Here are some impressions from the event.

Wes Anderson Is Curating a Massive Museum Show—10 Weird Works We Predict He’ll Choose

WHICH WORKS WILL WES CHOOSE?

Ahead of our new exhibition "Spitzmaus Mummy in a Coffin and Other Treasures" by director Wes Anderson and his wife Juman Malouf, the Observer has been wondering, which objects from the vast collection of the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna they might choose for the show. Have a look at this interesting article - and experience the facinating new show from November 6, 2018, to April 28, 2019, in Vienna.

On May 17, the FACC Houston and RSM International once again hosted an "Art of Business Luncheon" in cooperation with the IFKHM. The event that took place at Chef Soren Pedersen’s featured violinist Sergei Galperin who spoke about “Enterprising Variations on a Theme”.

In addition to being a performer and teacher, Sergei has access to the finest musical instruments and advises on the acquisition of violins, violas, and cellos to collectors, players and investors looking to diversify their portfolios in tangible assets. Musical instruments appreciate in value from 5 to 12 percent a year, need little maintenance, and have low insurance premiums. Unlike other investments such as real estate, instruments can be sold in any part of the globe where the art market is hot.

Sergei captivated the audience with his music as well as his expertise, while enlightening everyone about an intriguing new asset class for their investment portfolios. Here are some impressions from the event.

Lyons Brown and his wife Alice Carey, Jeff and Justine Koons, Nobel Prize winner Eric Kandel and his wife Denise, Ronald and Jo Carole Lauder, Agnes Gund, Grande Dame of the arts, ACFNY director Christine Moser, Emanuelle and Dominic Habsburg as well as Gregor and Beatrix Medinger, initiators of the AAF Cultural Exchange Awards.
