For this special Open Studio with Greenwich House Pottery, teens are invited to learn new techniques from ceramics artists and try their hand at creating clay sculptures. They will also have the chance to experiment with the potter’s wheel and have their piece fired in a kiln. All skill levels welcome; no prior experience with ceramics necessary.

New York City teens are invited to a collaborative art-making workshop with 2019 Biennial artist Robert Bittenbender. In his work, Bittenbender draws equal inspiration from traditional art materials such as paint and graphite as he does from cheap, found objects and detritus picked up off the street. He combines these materials to create improvisational assemblages.

Join Bittenbender for collaborative assemblage-making using velcro, plastic toys, and other found objects. Art supplies and refreshments will be provided—everyone is welcome.

New York City teens are invited to the Whitney to explore the 2019 Whitney Biennial! Featuring seventy-five artists and collectives working in painting, sculpture, installation, film and video, photography, performance, and sound, the 2019 Biennial takes the pulse of the contemporary artistic moment.

Join Biennial artist Maia Ruth Lee for a discussion about her artistic practice and a workshop where teens will create their own talismans, powerful objects that influence and protect emotions. Youth Insights Leaders will lead interactive gallery activities, discussions, and art-making projects.

The Whitney’s Education Department is hosting The Lower East Side Printshop for an artist residency inspired by Andy Warhol—From A to B and Back Again. Schools, community organizations, families, and teens are invited to try their hand at the silk screening process and to experiment with some of the printmaking techniques that Andy Warhol used in his own work. Participants will look at artwork created by Warhol and then make their own prints on tote bags with guidance from the Printshop’s master printers and staff.
