The Eye of the Sahara is one of Earth's most extraordinary natural formations. 🌍🌀

Officially known as the Richat Structure, this massive circular feature lies in the Sahara Desert of Mauritania and stretches about 25 to 30 miles (40–50 kilometers) across. Its striking pattern is so distinctive that astronauts often use it as a landmark when viewing Earth from orbit.

Scientists once proposed that the formation was created by a meteorite impact or volcanic activity. Today, the leading explanation is that it began as a giant geological dome. Over millions of years, wind and water eroded the surrounding rock at different rates, revealing the remarkable series of concentric rings visible today.

The Richat Structure has also inspired theories linking it to the lost city of Atlantis because of its circular appearance. However, there is no scientific evidence supporting that connection.

From the ground, it appears as an ordinary rocky landscape. Its iconic "eye" shape only becomes visible from high above, making it one of the most fascinating geological features on our planet.

A new study suggests Earth’s population may be significantly larger than current estimates indicate. 🌍

Researchers from Aalto University in Finland found that major global population datasets may severely undercount people living in rural areas. By comparing official records with detailed local data from hundreds of rural projects across 35 countries, the team discovered that some datasets may underestimate rural populations by as much as 53% to 84%.

Because billions of people live outside major cities, the findings could have major implications for infrastructure planning, climate policy, healthcare access, and resource distribution worldwide.

RMS Titanic was one of the largest and most technologically advanced passenger ships of its era. Built by Harland and Wolff, the vessel departed on its maiden voyage in April 1912, traveling from Southampton toward New York.

On the night of April 14, 1912, Titanic collided with an iceberg in the North Atlantic Ocean. The damage caused multiple compartments to flood, and the ship sank in the early hours of April 15. Observations from NASA’s Juno have revealed unusual lightning activity within the atmosphere of Jupiter, including flashes that appear green in processed imagery. These detections were made while the spacecraft passed relatively close to the planet’s cloud tops, providing a detailed view of its polar regions.

The phenomenon is linked to what scientists describe as “shallow lightning,” a form of electrical discharge that occurs higher in Jupiter’s atmosphere than previously expected. Unlike lightning on Earth, which typically forms in water-based storm clouds near equatorial regions, Jupiter’s lightning originates within clouds composed of ammonia and water mixtures. Notably, these events are concentrated near the planet’s poles rather than its equator.

Jupiter’s lightning is significantly more energetic than terrestrial lightning, with estimates suggesting it can release orders of magnitude more energy than typical lightning bolts on Earth. This difference is attributed to the planet’s विशाल atmospheric scale, pressure conditions, and chemical composition.

The green coloration observed in some images is not yet fully understood.
