El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument is the birthplace of Los Angeles and the city's oldest historic district. Founded in September 1781 near a Tongva-Native American village, El Pueblo encompasses the area where forty-four settlers from present-day Northern Mexico of Indigenous, African, and Spanish heritage journeyed more than one-thousand miles to established a new city for New Spain. Since that time, Los Angeles has been under the flags of Spain, Mexico and the United States and has grown into one of the world’s largest metropolitan areas. Managed by the City of Los Angeles, El Pueblo is a living museum that continues to fulfill its unique role as the historic and symbolic heart of the city, reflecting the diverse multiculturalism that contributed to its early history.

Artist Oscar Magallanes invites us inside “UAC: The Never Again Now,” an exhibition that reveals how systems of power drive displacement, family separation, detention, and cultural erasure. Connecting colonialism to today’s humanitarian crisis, the exhibition centers the experiences, resilience, and humanity of vulnerable children and Indigenous communities.

Visit the Museum of Social Justice to experience the exhibition and join the conversation.

Presented by the Museum of Social Justice and Oscar Magallanes, with support from the California Arts Council, El Pueblo de Los Angeles Historical Monument, Letters from Dilley, and ProPublica.

The gathering included a tour of El Pueblo, introductions, neighborhood hub discussions, and conversations focused on regional collaborations.
