✨ Introducing our Getty Marrow Intern, Noemi Guzman ✨

Hi! My name is Noemi Guzman, and I'm this year's Getty Marrow Intern at the Museum of Social Justice (MoSJ). I recently graduated from Bowdoin College this May, where I double-majored in Government and Legal Studies and Latin American, Caribbean, and Latinx Studies. I'm a born-and-raised Angelena, passionate about giving back to the community that raised me and getting to know the people and stories that make Los Angeles so vibrant. I care deeply about creating spaces where people can share their experiences and feel seen. I believe storytelling is a powerful tool for social change, which is one reason I was so excited to join MoSJ this summer.
This summer, I've been assisting with the Museum's upcoming exhibition, "UAC: The Never Again Now," which explores unaccompanied children's experiences navigating the U.S. immigration system. Much of my work has focused on research, including developing a timeline that traces U.S. immigration policies and historical events that have shaped unaccompanied children's experiences. The timeline will be displayed as part of the exhibition!
I have learned so much throughout this experience and have especially enjoyed working alongside Domenica and Oscar, seeing firsthand the thought, care, and time that go into bringing an exhibition to life. It has been incredibly meaningful to contribute to a project that feels especially urgent given the moment we are living in. I hope that this exhibition invites visitors not only to learn about the past but also to sit with the discomfort of recognizing how much of that past still echoes in the present. Why do we keep seeing the same patterns replayed, just in different forms? I hope visitors leave thinking critically about that question, reflecting on how the past has shaped our present, and considering the work that remains to create a different future.
