🕯️🧡🕯️ Participation Opportunity Below! 🕯️🧡🕯️

For the second year in recognition of Día de Mu***os, your Rosenberg Library is going to set up an ofrenda in our second-floor Grand Hallway. Last year, we honored loved ones of our library team members (pictured below). This year, we're inviting you to participate.

If you'd like for us to include a photo of your gone-but-not-forgotten loved one, simply send us a photo to our [email protected] email address. Don't worry about sizing or framing. We'll take care of the rest!

Need help scanning a photograph if you don't have it available digitally? We can help with that, too. Stop by our third-floor computer lab to scan one yourself, or our Galveston and Texas History Center team on our fourth floor can help you if you need additional in-person scanning assistance, too.

This ofrenda will be on display beginning Monday, Oct. 26. If participating, please submit your photo using the email address specified above by the close of business on Friday, Oct. 23.

Today we want to say a very special THANK YOU to our friends at Gracie's Gift Shop on the Strand here in Galveston! ❤ They recently hosted a special sale and designated our children's department to receive a portion of the proceeds. This morning they dropped off a check from the effort in honor of their family member and longtime Galveston leader Roland Bassett who was president of our board for many years.

Community love, remembrance, and partnerships like this mean everything. Thank you for thinking of us. We are so grateful!

Earlier this year, we excitedly purchased a new county services van. 📚🚐 And this isn’t just any van - it’s an incredibly useful tool that allows our team to provide library delivery services to institutions and homebound individuals all across Galveston County.

Originally solid white, we’re happy to report that it's received a much-needed visual update! It now has a bright, colorful wrap that represents all our wonderful county libraries. Every city in the county is listed on each side of the van, along with our Extension Services contact information and a special thanks to the Galveston County Commissioners Court for the generous funding that makes these amazing services possible. We can’t wait for you to see it the next time you’re out and about.

The Rosenberg Library seeks a self-motivated, cross-device tech enthusiast to join our team as a Library Assistant in the Computer Lab. In this role, you will be the backbone of our lab—managing standard Windows workstations while spearheading our creative hardware, including large format and 3D printers. The ideal candidate is self-assured, patient under pressure, and possesses a natural knack for delivering outstanding customer service to patrons of all tech skill levels.

Talk about powerful numbers! ❤ And did you know? EVERY library in our Galveston County Library System is accredited by the state. That is not always the case! How fortunate are we to live in an area where these essential institutions not only exist, but are often going above and beyond to serve in so many ways.

Special thanks to every library in our county and the Texas Library Association for sharing this data. Texas libraries are essential, and so is your ongoing support of them.

Dr. Merlin Joseph McGivney was born in Galveston in 1905 and lived on the island until his death in 1985. He was a practicing dentist and a member of many civic and cultural organizations, including the Galveston Art League. 🎨

Dr. McGivney, an award-winning painter himself, perpetuated his love for the arts by establishing an endowment fund administered by the Rosenberg Library. Each year, in cooperation with the Galveston Art League, the library awards a purchase prize, (the McGivney Award), to the winner of the Art League’s annual Fall Juried Show. This year’s winner is Oris Vigil for his painting "Guardian." Congratulations, Oris!
