Instructor Cece Rodriguez (.atelier.tx) will lead us through a relaxing, all-levels workout overlooking Galveston Harbor, and we’ll close out the evening with an optional cold plunge. The sun is setting earlier, so we’re getting started at 6 p.m. 🌞 The weather looks great Thursday, but in the case of rain or cold temps, yoga will move indoors.

The Bishop’s Palace Basement to Attic Tours are the best opportunity the public has to view all floors of the historic property. Offering participants a rare look into parts of the National Historic Landmark that are typically off-limits, the 1892 Bishop’s Palace Basement to Attic Tours feature Mrs. Gresham’s studio, and an exclusive third-floor view to a truly one-of-a-kind panoramic of the Gulf of Mexico.

Tickets are limited to 20 total guests.

Step aboard Galveston Historical Foundation’s SEAGULL II for the original Haunted Harbor Tour through Galveston Bay. Led by guides, guests will learn about the haunted history of the island’s historic waters. The 90-minute tour features historically accurate accounts researched by Galveston Historical Foundation staff.

Cruises depart from the Galveston Historic Seaport at Pier 22.

Hocus Pocus in the Backyard! Grab a blanket, bring your favorite goblins, and settle in for a little Halloween magic as we watch Hocus Pocus in the backyard of the 1838 Menard House, Galveston’s oldest residence.

Once they’re gone, they’re gone, so if you’re feeling froggy, go ahead and jump!

ELISSA friends, please note: The ship will be closed to the public starting at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, and will reopen at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27.

Gather your ghouls for an evening of spooky questions, strange facts, local lore, and Halloween-themed challenges designed to test even the sharpest minds. Expect a lively mix of haunted history, pop culture, creepy curiosities, and plenty of unexpected twists along the way.

The weather looks nice, so we’ll be on the dock next to ELISSA!

We expected seats to fill fast, and y’all haven’t let us down.

It’s another busy start to another busy week, but we’re taking a beat to savor these gorgeous moments Cadet 3/C Sherkhan Kossay, a student at Texas A&M Maritime Academy, sent to Galveston Historical Foundation.

Cadet 3/C Kossay captured these shots of the ELISSA in New York Harbor from aboard the TS State of Maine during Galveston’s 250 voyage. The profile of our 1877 square-rigged iron barque cast against an iconic 2026 cityscape has us marveling over the passage of time, and appreciating the wonder a 149 year-old ship continues to inspire.

We’re so grateful to Cadet 3/C Kossay for taking the time to snap these shots and then for surprising us by sending them our way. It’s a beautiful reminder that we all have friends, everywhere.

Three things the ELISSA crew loves:

1. Sailing a square-rigged ship instead of staying home
2. A challenge
3. Astros baseball (especially in October)

Our love for the ‘Stros is loud and proud: ELISSA flew the Astros flag in every port stop on Galveston 250’s voyage, including Boston and New York. 👀

A note about October 22: ELISSA will serve as the lead ship and kick off the 2026 Harvest Moon Regatta on Thursday, October 22. ELISSA will not compete in the event, but will be there to start the race from Galveston. Pretty exciting stuff, if we do say so ourselves. 😅

Happy World Maritime Day!

Every day is a day to appreciate maritime life and work at Galveston’s Historic Seaport. Today is no different!

We’ll be on the harbor this evening, plain-air painting as the sun sets. For just $15, you’ll receive a small canvas, easel, paints, and instruction from local artist Nick Barbee (). All skill levels are welcome!

Last weekend, we celebrated the people who bring so much heart, time, and joy to Galveston Historical Foundation: our volunteers! More than 300 volunteers filled the 1859 Ashton Villa for dinner, drinks, and community, while our staff worked hard in the kitchen, preparing the meal.

To our volunteers: Your hard work, spirit, and generosity make so much possible throughout the year. Thank you!
