ON THIS DAY: On August 25th, 1886, the Lone Star State Medical, Dental, and Pharmaceutical Association was formed in Galveston. This was the second organization of Black medical professionals in the United States.

Among those involved in the association was Dr. Herman Barnett, who served on the executive committee. Dr. Barnett is featured in the Galveston County Museum – free to visit Monday, Wednesday, Friday, 10:00AM to 4:00PM.
