AL CAPONE & ELIOT NESS:
THE REAL STORY OF THE UNTOUCHABLES

October 20, 7pm at the Norwood Park Historical Society
5624 N. Newark Ave., Chicago

DID YOU KNOW THAT…
• …Capone’s empire of breweries, distilleries, speakeasies, casinos and brothels stretched from Lake Geneva to Gary?
• …the Untouchables would sometimes meet at Eliot Ness’ apartment after a hard night of raiding breweries to partake of a few beers themselves?
• in Chicago Al Capone was looked upon as more of a celebrity than gangster, once adorning the cover of Time magazine?
• …Eliot Ness narrowly escaped two assassination attempts?
⁜⁜⁜⁜⁜⁜⁜
In this thrilling presentation, Joseph Geringer—actor, author & historian—details the government’s fight against the Capone Mob and their stranglehold on the Windy City. It’s much more exciting, and factual, than the movies. And YOU are there.
This colorful discourse sweeps you back to the early 1930s; you can almost hear the rumble of streetcars, the syncopation of bluelight trumpets and the staccato of tommy guns. And you’ll meet “Scarface Al” and the Justice Department agent who helped bring him down.
Mr. Geringer, who hails from the Southwest Side, has researched the subject for 35 years and even interviewed the last remaining member of Ness’ graft-free Untouchable squad, gathering rare input not found in books.
He has appeared on The History Channel® and authored many magazine articles, as well as a three-act play, Near To Me—An Irish Gangster’s Love Story, about Prohibition-led Chicago in 1928.

HISTORIC NOBLE-SEYMOUR-CRIPPEN HOUSE SEEKS GRASS ROOTS SUPPORT

Atop a glacially-formed ridge that parallels Newark Avenue sits the Noble-Seymour-Crippen House, known throughout the city as Chicago's oldest house, built in 1833. It currently serves as headquarters for the non-profit Norwood Park Historical Society. The Society is volunteer-run, receives no government funding and has been closed for the past 15 months due to the COVID-19 pandemic, severely crippling its operating and building maintenance budgets. Named a Chicago Landmark in 1988 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000, this is truly a historic structure that is deserving of widespread community and city support.

Please help us as we continue to maintain this Chicago Landmark and local treasure. To donate online, go to www.norwoodparkhistoricalsociety.org, click on "Get Involved" and then click on "Donate Money." You can use any major credit card. Or make your check payable to NPHS and mail it to: Annual Appeal, Norwood Park Historical Society, 5624 N. Newark Avenue, Chicago, IL 60631. We thank you in advance for your tax-deductible contribution.

Do you possess any photos of the old Norwood Ford, Northwest Hwy and Harlem Ave. They had a huge rotating neon sign on the corner. Thank you.
Was there ever a drawing for the Civil War Reproduction quilt? I found my ticket stub. The drawing was supposed to be done May 20,2020 but I don't recall. This covid thing has me messed up.
