New Exhibit Premieres July 25th.
The Norwood Park Historical Society is pleased to announce our newest history exhibit titled “The History of Sports and Recreation in Norwood Park." It is a brief history of sports and recreational-related events that took place in Norwood Park since it became a village in 1874. These include the building of the first gymnasium, the creation of the park also known as Norwood Park, the Golden Wheel Bike Derby, soap box derbies, the start of the baseball leagues, football leagues, and other forms of recreation. You will learn how things began, were enjoyed and now may only be a distant memory. Hope to see you there! Bob Kelly

For the safety of our visitors and volunteers, admissions will be limited. Please make a reservation. http://norwoodparkhistoricalsociety.org/schedule-a-museum-visit/

Inspired by the Amish custom of Barn Raising, and also in a mindset of cost reduction, Tom Spenny, of the Buildings and Grounds Committee, recruited family, friends, and NPHS members to construct a barn to replace the dilapidated south garage. In Amish custom, Barn raising combines socializing and community building with a practical goal of building or rebuilding a barn, and allows everyone involved to feel helpful, and to find joy and value in participating in joint cooperative work projects. There is still much work to be done, please contact Janette Spenny if you are interested in helping with this community-building barn-building project [email protected].

First picture:Tom is joined by family members Diane (spouse), Janette (daughter), and Charlie (son-in-law) to help lift the final wall of the barn on Monday, June 29th.

Second picture: Our volunteer crew, under the direction of retired carpenter Tim Suwinski, fits the final wall into the anchor bolts. Also pictured are volunteers George Kelly and Chris Grafton.
