After the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on April 4, 1968, photographer Steve Schapiro was one of the first to photograph the aftermath. Schapiro’s compelling images of the day include the assailant’s handprint on the bathroom wall and Dr. King’s room hours after the attack.
Schapiro’s powerful photos from the civil rights movement and portraits of iconic celebrities are part of the Activists and Icons exhibition.

See it before it closes October 27.

DETAINED: Stories of Immigration Detention
A Project by Greg Constantine

Opening reception and talk by Greg Constantine

Thursday, October 17,
5–7 p.m.

Free and open to the public

Detained: Stories of Immigration Detention features large-scale panoramas of detention centers around the country. The exhibition is part of a long-term documentary project that aims to expose the injustice of immigration detention practices and the impact, trauma and human cost of detention on communities. It includes the personal accounts of detained and deported individuals, drawn from interviews with the photographer. To protect the individuals’ privacy, their words have been read by Roosevelt University students and recorded for a loop that will play during the exhibition.
