We are delighted to announce TONY TASSET: 𝘉𝘭𝘰𝘸, 𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘴, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘤𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘦𝘬𝘴! which opens THIS FRIDAY, May 2, 6-8pm.

The centerpiece of the exhibition is “Brick Barrow,” a new sculpture in bronze patinated to an incredible lifelikeness, but just out of scale, magnified to a point of being eerily more than real, perhaps unreal. Another 3-D work, a cast aluminum eagle, finds the national bird taking on an expressionistic but slightly defeated mien. On the perimeter of the South Gallery hang Tasset’s new paintings, a spectrum of monochromatic canvases distressed in spots, sometimes to the point of having ragged holes. Perched like a putty eagle somewhere between the elegant and the pathetic, these works are augmented by a new video work, “My Lear,” produced by and co-directed with Jennifer Reeder, enjoying its world debut in the North Gallery space, featuring the artist performing a Shakespeare monologue in his studio.

Pictured: Tony Tasset, Brick Barrow, 2025, bronze with patina, 35 x 55 x 74 inches, edition 1 of 3 + 1 AP.

"A broadside joy of life exhibition of new paintings, but maybe more accurately described as, or thought of as, sculptures that happen to be painted. They hang and stand like sacred objects of some foreign pavement, wooden canvas-stretcher structures as yet uncategorizable. They’re free-associative in construction and content."
-New City

Cloud’s strange, angular, mixed and muddy colored sign board show “Circle Chat” is a broadside joy of life exhibition of new paintings, but maybe more accurately described as sculptures that happen to be painted.

Available now!

"Side two offers a change of mood. Four brief Sun Ra Loops offer cosmic cutups to clear your head and take us to the other end of the musical universe. As we travel we are treated to a noisy Sun Ra cover by Spaceways Inc. + Mu (aka Ken Vandermark) and upon our arrival we find Joe McPhee offering us ‘Cosmic Love’, a gently soothing and all-embracing saxophone which allows us to gently exit the known solar system."
Rupert Loydell/International Times

Sun Ra, who claimed to have been born on Saturn, always suggested that ‘Space is the Place’, William Burroughs declared that ‘Man is an artifact designed for space traveI’ (though he never made it), but Jon Savage is happy to travel inside his head through music. His new compilation album Jo...

Mike Cloud, through April 26th

"As the deep reaches of space mark the limits of our comprehension, the URLs may mark the limit of what a painting can or cannot represent without occluding its subject. Some links are from NASA or another Wikipedia, but the largest begins: “https://reddit.com/r/spaceporn/comments…” One can only imagine what might exist on the other side of obscurement."

As with all forms of inquiry, there is a necessary coefficient of redundancy that attends the best art.

"What on earth does it mean to share an emotion, he (Bordowitz) asks? To observe art with another person, concur it makes you both feel a particular way, and believe you understand what the other means?
- Aida Amoako (Hyperallergic)

More than an overarching narrative, Gregg Bordowitz is invested in what it means to observe art together and share an emotion with another person.

"Presenting collaborative work between the two artists, this exhibition builds on the gallery’s long standing commitments to work at the intersection of art and music. In operation since 2004, Corbett vs. Dempsey functions also as a record label, making it a perfect venue for Kim Gordon’s first art exhibition in the city, although she has played many concerts here, including a recent performance in the Bohemian National Cemetery."
-Debra Riley Parr/Brooklyn Rail

For this exhibition Kim Gordon created eight-minute-long bursts of sounds to accompany German-born artist Albert Oehlen’s three massive twelve-foot-tall metal constructions. Flat cutouts attached to the walls of the stark, over-lit, white gallery space, they are shaped like huge omega forms. Their...

New Release!

"One of his most important efforts was forming Ansamblul Hyperion in 1976, a group that managed to collide his own notion of spectralism with electronics, noise, and harmonic complexity. Somehow, Dumitrescu was able to produce this remarkable album in 1981 for the state-run imprint Electrecord; shockingly, it has never been reissued until now. "

Our guide to the month’s crucial contemporary classical releases.
