I would like to thank those who showed up for our kinda last minute Old Timers Day. We had great fellowship, seen people that we have not seen since COVID Started . It was really nice to see non Fire department families with kids attending. The little ones look like they did not want to leave, lol.

A special thanks to the following for helping make this event happen and for the hard work and dedication on getting the museum in better shape. We still have a lot more to do, but we will get there.

****** MUSEUM UPDATE *****

From the President,

Due to the dedication and hard work by my museum committee, we are now coming down to the home stretch of opening up. We have added a few things , reorganized a few and gave the museum much needed TLC. We still have some things that need to be addressed , but they are out of our control for now.

The opening date will be announced soon and in years past we were only open one Sunday a month. That has now changed to every Sunday (times will be announced with the opening date) . If our Sundays go well, then we will look into Possibly opening Saturdays and that will also depend on our staffing ability. Please remember when we open, all Covid guidelines will be in place so everyone can have a fun and safe experience. If you are interested in helping at the museum, please leave a message.

ALL BCFD Retired and Current members are welcome to join use to help tell the rich history of the past and present of the BALTIMORE CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT.

Stay safe,

Shaun Freund, President

On this day in 1973, the John F. Steadman station opened at the corner of S Eutaw St & W Lombard St. It was Baltimore’s first “superstation”, joining under one roof:
Engine Cos 15, 23 & 27
Truck Co 2
Water Tower Co 1
Rescue Co 1
AirFLEX 1
Battalion Chief 5
Box 414 Coffee Wagon
Ambulance 1

Additionally, in the sub basement, was the high pressure pumping station. The system was designed to supplement firefighting efforts downtown, with the ability to supply more than 19,000 gallons of water per minute.

Along with the opening of the Steadman Station came the organization of a new unit & concept in the BCFD, the AirFLEX. The AirFLEX combined the air unit, used to refill FFs air tanks, the floodlight unit, and the hi-expansion foam unit all into one vehicle.

During it’s hayday, the Steadman Station was known as the busiest fire station in the world. With the closing of some units and relocation of others, it no longer holds that title, however, it was 2nd busiest in the USA for 2019, according to @FirehouseNews.

Goliath-Hero of the Great Baltimore Fire (Feb. 7-8, 1904)
Greetings to " BALTIMORE CITY FIRE MUSEUM " and all THEIR Firefighter, EMT, Paramedic and Police Brothers and Sisters, come from Firefighter - Poet Hartmut Reinsch, (Hardy) in Toronto / Canada. ~ *"Stay Safe!"* ~ ~*"Firefighter Brothers!*"~ Firefighters in this world, united we stand, as we all are Brothers, through thick and thin. No matter in what country we are living, that's how it will be and always has been. *** If some of our Brothers need urgent help, we are there for them in no time at all. Distance and borders become meaningless, We will meet and unite, at the very first call. *** Together we'll fight all disaster and fires with courage and honor we'll stand side by side, and overcome danger and many hardships, as we struggle together, till hope is in sight. *** When all is done and over and the smoke has cleared, doing our dangerous work, we have all become Brothers..., we realize, that all was possible for us Firefighters, as we are really all the same, but we have different Mothers. *** Written by Firefighter -Poet Hartmut Reinsch © Nov. 13th. 2012 - in Toronto / CANADA http://tinyurl.com/o6g8hn6 343 FDNY Firefighters gave their lives in New York, On September the eleventh, two thousand and one...!
