The title Spirit Object comes from the way both artists utilize found objects as a medium, bringing a sense of familiarity while also evoking a spiritual presence. They interpret objects as carriers of migration, material memory, intergenerational connection, inheritance, and community. Ultimately, their work highlights the spiritual dimensions of human experience, expressed with tenderness and sensitivity through their chosen objects and materials.

Together, the artists create a sense of wonder and discovery while raising important questions about how we understand objects in this world. Through a humanistic lens, Spirit Object invites viewers to consider the stories, cultures, ancestors, and spirits that objects carry with them.

Spirit Object is on view through September 17.

Installation is underway for Spirit Object: Kimberly Fulton Orozco and Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya, curated by Jiha Moon. Join us for the opening reception this Thursday 8/6 from 6 - 9 pm and an artist talk Saturday 8/8 at 3pm.

Born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia, Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya lives and works in the greater New York area. For this exhibition, she creates a new site-specific installation and presents a new body of work incorporating handmade ceramic elements alongside found objects that she has both inherited from her family business and collected over time. Known for her large-scale, immersive, and intricate installations that weave together handmade materials and found objects, Phingbodhipakkiyaโ€™s work explores ancestral connections, hidden labor, and the communities to which she belongs.

Kimberly Fulton Orozco received her BFA from Georgia State University and has her MFA in Studio Arts from the Institute of American Indian Arts. In this exhibition, she presents a new series, Insecure Mixtape, a group of wall-hung sculptural assemblages in which persona, material curiosity, and labor intertwine. Alongside these works, she exhibits new paintings and works on paper that negotiate between figuration and abstraction through a coded visual language.

This exhibition is sponsored by the Sarah Giles Moore Foundation.
