That's one of the ideas that informs SALT: A Design Story.⁠

This Friday, MODA is opening its doors to everyone. Free Friday runs from 12 to 7pm, with free admission to SALT: A Design Story, sponsored by First, Not Only Network (FNON), a community built around women of color in advertising, marketing, and communications lifting as they climb.⁠
⁠
From 2 to 5pm on August 28, pull up a chair with the team from Cultured South. They'll talk about how salt fuels everything they make, from kombucha to collard kimchi to their elixirs and tonics. Try a few samples while you're at it.⁠

At Portrait Coffee, the people who grow the coffee are part of that story. By working directly with producers and putting farmers’ names on its single-origin bags, Portrait Coffee is changing how we recognize the people behind our daily cup and how a coffee shop can show up for its community.

Create your own handwritten recipe keepsake by preserving a favorite family recipe or cherished dish using hand lettering, personal annotations, and mixed materials, transforming it into a meaningful heirloom. A recipe card with a coffee stain. A grandmother's looping cursive in the margin of a cookbook. The words "add salt to taste," written by a hand that knew exactly how much salt that meant.

Recipes hold more than instructions — they're physical artifacts of the people who passed them down.

Join cursive artist and educator Stef Alicia McCalmon for a hands-on workshop exploring the relationship between handwriting, food, heritage, and design. You'll reflect on recipes as personal archives and leave with a handwritten recipe keepsake of your own.

Bring a handwritten family recipe, cookbook page, or kitchen note if you've got one — stains, scribbles, and all.
