Franco Fontana, from the ‘Swimming Pool’ series, 1983, 22,5 x 34 cm, Vintage, C- print, Edition 2/50

One of his iconic approaches involved photographing “quite naked” figures—often women—partially submerged in bright, geometric swimming pools, focusing on light, reflection, and vibrant color, very typical of the 80s. They were considered part of the landscape.
The result is an iconic work, which was also published in a book called “Piscina”.

For the solo exhibition ‘Morbide Macchine Silicee’, Rosin revisits the monumental work ‘Gelatine Lux’, originally exhibited at Museo Fortuny in 2007, sharing with the public the idea that glass can never be fully controlled, while revealing its expressive autonomy and seductive force, shaped through principles of flexibility and modulation. Matter composed of silicon takes form through continuous motion, with an element that is never static.

The installation ‘Gelatine Lux’ is conceived as a single vast living organism made of water, inhabited by bioluminescent alien figures that form its nervous system.

In Grazia Quaroni’s words, Maria Grazia Rosin ‘Morbide Macchine Carnivore’ belong within the lineage of the “bachelor machines” that run through much of modern and contemporary art.
Their forms appear robotic, their design almost bionic, yet their inspiration ultimately comes from living organisms found in nature. They are also Siliceous, a name that brings attention back to the material from which they are made: glass, whose primary component is silicon. Over the past decade, the reputation of this material—long dismissed as too decorative to be fully accepted within the realm of the “fine arts”—has undergone a significant and welcome transformation. Like other techniques once considered “minor,” glass has gained renewed recognition thanks to numerous exhibitions and the persistent commitment of artists and master artisans working with it. Through this sustained effort, the conceptual potential of glass has increasingly come to light, and works such as those presented here clearly demonstrate its strength.

A dynamic two-acts project exploring glass as a living and poetic material.

🐙May 21st-July 16th🦀

Glass is celebrated in its most domestic and ironic dimension, between light, form, and playful creativity.

🦀 Maria Grazia Rosin lives and works in Venice.
She graduated under the guidance of Emilio Vedova at the Academy of Fine arts in Venice.
In 1992, she began collaborating with the Master Glass Blowers in Murano, producing her first artworks in glass. This experience led her to broaden the visionary bi-dimensional concepts she had explored in her large scale paintings and embrace the three-dimensional potential that glass offered. Today, glass is the focus of her uniquely probing experimentation.

👉🏼Her work is in the permanent collection of Corning Museum of Glass, New York; Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh; Kunst Museum, Düsseldorf; and Murano Glass Museum, Italy.
Rosin was the 2015 recipient of the “Glass in Venice” prize awarded annually by the Veneto Institute of the Sciences, Letters and the Arts to designate the Best International Artist of the Year.

Marco Lanza, “Ricreazione #60”, 2024, vernacular photographs, 100x100 cm

Marco Lanza’s work, born from the purchase of thousands of loose vernacular photographs, developed with the observation of each single image through a mask with a square hole. Following the lines of the new selection, he cut the photographs to obtain new works, literally extracted from the originals. A reinterpretation that acts on the material, modifying it forever.
A recreation that takes place both on the selected part and on what remains, an apparent waste that becomes an open work, endowed with infinite interpretative possibilities.

Black or White?!
