There are a limited number of prints of this image left co-signed by both Terry O’Neill and Raquel Welch making them some of the most sought-after pieces of celebrity photography.

The level of controversy surrounding the image was so intense that Terry O’Neill himself chose to suppress it out of fear it would destroy Raquel Welch’s career before it truly began.
When the photos were developed in 1966, the religious imagery was considered so deeply blasphemous that O’Neill and Welch’s team realized that releasing it would cause an immediate, catastrophic public backlash. Instead of the studio banning it, O’Neill personally boxed up the negatives and hid them in his archive.
The image was considered so radioactive that it wasn’t just kept from the public—it was hidden from the world for 30 years, only being published for the very first time in 1996.
