In 2021 Rosie Sanders departed from her well-known bright botanical studio works to at the same time produce monochrome works of landscape drawing, immortalising particular woodland scenes close to her heart and home. Her titles are tender poetic conceits that heighten awareness of the life of certain trees and their habitats—particular moments that have struck her on these walks she has taken for over 15 years. Each piece has an acutely rendered beauty, with a unique technique for its subject’s special atmosphere and focus. The character of each composition is brought to life hand in hand with the lore of her titles, which further conduct the mythic sense of time in black and white, to create a monumental and magical new body of work: Spirit of Place.

Works - Nicholas Turner: Periscope

'Periscope', a new show by British contemporary painter Nicholas Turner RWA. The exhibition will be on view from the 12th July until the 24th July.

Nicholas Turner RWA (b.1972, London) lives in Monmouthshire, Wales. After a Foundation Course in Art and Design in Bristol, Nicholas achieved a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from UWE Bristol and in 2003 was elected an Academician of the Royal West of England Academy, serving on its governing council. He has exhibited widely, and his work is held in public collections including the Royal Collection, the RWA Permanent Collection, the Talboys Bequest RWA, and numerous private collections across the UK, Japan, USA, Italy and Israel.

The exhibition's title reflects Turner's approach to painting:

'I choose real situations and landscapes to observe, popping my head up and searching around, to then retreat below to digest these glimpses and information seen; 'below' being my further exploration of these seen images in the studio.' Turner 2021

Our current exhibition showcases 21 new still lifes by our talented artist James Gillick.

James was born in Norfolk, England in 1972. He makes his paintings in rural Lincolnshire using a 17th century method and an amalgam of traditional and fine modern materials. He makes his panels, canvasses, paints, varnishes and mediums himself to ancient recipes using simple, sound, and long-lasting ingredients.

The exhibition will be on view in our London gallery until the 3rd of July.

Geneviève Daël was born in Paris in 1947, and continues to live and work in Montmartre. She studied Decorative Arts at the Académie Charpentier. After a brief period spent living in London she returned to Paris, where she began to study painting independently, and worked as a model for Dior while developing her artistic practise. Her first solo exhibition was held in 1984 with Francis Kyle, London, with whom she had nine further solo shows, along with many themed group exhibitions.

Her mysterious and atmospheric interior scenes often include meditative female figures viewed in profile or from behind. While depicting the elegant interiors of France and Italy, the lyrical atmosphere of her works shares an affinity with the Northern European traditions of the Dutch Golden Age and Hammershøi.
