Inspired by her Syrian heritage, Yasmin Hayat has developed a language of painting which is derived from an old Arabic style and incorporates contemporary Western and Indo-Persian techniques.
She experiments with pigments which she hand makes from minerals, plants and earths. These tactile and luminous colours, which are consciously selected due to their relation to the painted subject, result in a dimensional finish which transforms, moves and reflects, just like the stories depicted.
Yasmin sources the raw materials from around the world and meticulously refines and processes these ingredients to craft an individualised palette, which is completely unique to each painting she makes.
This exquisite artwork is part of The Miniature Show - on view until 28th January 2023. The show is extremely popular, visit our website to purchase online.

Craig Wylie's work revolves principally around the search to extend the genres of still-life and figure painting.
He has an extraordinary ability to seize the appearance of his subjects with tremendous fluency and ease, but this is only the start.
Working from life, with forays into the use of a laptop for his large portrait heads, Wylie has developed a multi-faceted but singular approach to these genres.
Wylie's works are now on view in The Miniature Show, a collection of small-scale artworks by our gallery artists. Visit our website to view online.

Great to see artist Janet Marsh in the gallery with her new series of miniature paintings, created for our exciting new exhibition.
For this series of botanical art, Janet has used watercolour on vellum, "to give a special luminosity and exotic clarity to the venation on a leaf or butterfly's wing, which excites me even on small scale".
