To enjoy a lunch or afternoon treat is the perfect way to compliment a day out. Knowing that many of the products used are sourced locally is a great way of supporting and sustaining local businesses too.

Fishbourne Roman Palace Café is delighted to have introduced some new and exciting local ranges to their menu. Now that the summer is here and ice creams are top of the treat list, a range of Caroline’s Dairy ice creams, made in Sidlesham, can be found in the freezer. For those looking for something sweet to eat with a tea or coffee, Horsham Gingerbread and biscuits are the perfect accompaniment; made in Sussex with flour ground at the Weald and Dowland Living Museum. Even the milk in your tea and coffee is from Pensworth Farm in Southampton. If a bottle of water is all that is needed to quench your thirst, then these are from Southdown Water which has been filtered through the deep chalk layers of the beautiful South Downs.

The café at the Palace is the perfect place to drop in for a coffee or tea after school or shopping and they have just introduced a loyalty card for regular purchases of hot drinks. Pick up your card and collect a stamp each time you buy a hot drink. Your tenth cup is free.

Bone 'shows rabbits were in UK in Roman era'

We're in the news today and we can't stop rabbiting on about it!
A bone found at Fishbourne Roman Palace in 1964 was identified by Dr Fay Worley of Historic England as a rabbit bone and its carbon dating has shown that this is from the Roman era.
Rabbits were thought to be a medieval introduction so this discovery means that rabbits were introduced to Britain nearly 1000 years earlier than previously thought.
The wonderful academics from the University of Exeter, Universities of Oxford and Leicester, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, along with Historic England and Sussex Archaeological Society have been carrying out the analysis, led by Professor Naomi Sykes.

Tests on a rabbit bone, found in West Sussex, show for the first time the animal was alive in 1AD.
