A vest thought to have been worn by King Charles I the day he was executed recently made headlines. It is set to go on public display later in the year at Museum of London in an exhibition called Executions. You may have heard that we recently welcomed home the original bust of King Charles I, which is on display at the museum and can be found on the first floor.

For our younger audience we have commissioned a children’s story by author and illustrator Tom Tinn-Disbury which can be found on story boards around the Mystery Warrior exhibition. The story tells the life of a brother and sister Zach and Lily on an Iron Age farm, a runaway pig and the elaborate burial of a mighty warrior.

You can also help Zach and Lily find their pigs that are running free around the museum and collect letters to find the missing word.

Mystery Warrior: The North Bersted Man is open to the public until 26 September 2020. Free admission, donations welcome.

Our Story

Opening times: Open Monday - Saturday 10:00 - 17:00 Bank holidays 10:00 - 16:00

The Novium Museum is Chichester District's award-winning museum. Built over the remains of a Roman bathhouse and with three floors of fantastic exhibitions, The Novium Museum tells the fascinating story of Chichester District and its rich heritage. We look after 500,000 artefacts, both on display and in its store. The museum is free for people to visit, and is located in Tower Street, close to the cathedral and just opposite Chichester Library.

Throughout the year, visitors to the museum can enjoy a wide variety of permanent, temporary and travelling exhibitions. We also organise numerous activities including a mixture of bookable and drop in events including talks, the annual Chichester Roman Week during the May half term, finds identification sessions, meet Father Christmas and lots more. You can enjoy coffee and cake while taking in the remains of the Roman bathhouse and the museum shop offers a wide range of exhibition related gifts, toys and books.

There is an award winning schools programme, including engaging workshops, outreach visits and popular sleepover events. Each year the learning team also organises a popular creative writing competition for schoolchildren.

Hi there went to the excellent Hollywood Rome exhibition at the Chichester Novium museum (@TheNovium) – best thing it’s free. As you can see one of us got into the spirit of thing, there’s got to be a song in this photo - not quite sure what though! @sunhotband
Chichester from on high.
A big thank you from all the KS1 staff and pupils at St Thomas More's Catholic Primary School for the fabulous Space Explorer workshops that we attended last week - we all had a wonderful time!
Thank you for the fantastic Lego exhibition and events. Here are the Beatles recreated and redesigned at home by my 5 year old inspired by his visits to you this summer. We have really enjoyed it and he has aspirations to be a Lego professional now! 😊
We loved our visit today, and our 8 year old daughter was so inspired she created this little animation with a little help from a book bought in your shop!
#noviumsmugglers sorry you had to see this!!!
