What a lively preview on Tuesday!

On Tuesday night, so many of you attended the private view of Artel's brand-new exhibition.

Full of artists from all disciplines, Artel is a group from the South Downs that came together to share ideas, experiences, and inspiration.

A little behind the scenes of ARTEL Contempoary Art latest exhibition…

Thirty years ago, a group of artists from the South Downs came together to share ideas, experiences, and inspiration. They called themselves Artel, and the group continues to flourish today.

Have you had a chance to see ‘Little White Lines’ yet?

Sinclair Webster 's exhibition runs until October 11th, showcasing his artistic evolution. He studied at Worth under Anthony Renouf, a former student of Stanley Spencer, and later attended Trinity Hall, Cambridge, where he earned degrees in Architecture and Fine Art. After starting his career with early exhibitions, Sinclair took a break from painting to support his family, spending four decades in architecture as an ideas specialist focused on healthcare facility design.

In 2016, he returned to painting and drawing full-time. His architectural background influences the compositional discipline evident in his work, which features landscapes, figures, and animals. Sinclair draws inspiration from familiar places such as Africa, Sussex, and Yorkshire, along with themes reflecting his religious beliefs and interests in European mythology.

Don't miss the opportunity to see these paintings in person!

Martyn Jones is a contemporary painter based in Cardiff, Wales. He studied for an MA in Fine Art at Chelsea School of Art, London, and was awarded a Junior Fellowship at Bath Academy of Art, where his tutors included the influential British artists Patrick Heron and Adrian Heath.

Using a personal visual language of shapes, colour and form, his paintings explore the beauty and ambiguity of the world around him. Each painting develops intuitively, with instinct and sensibility guiding the process.

You may have seen Martyn Jones exhibit with us before.

Working primarily in abstraction, Jones draws inspiration from the natural world and his everyday experiences. Using a personal visual language of shapes, colour and form, his paintings explore the beauty and ambiguity of the world around him. His work seeks to evoke a sense of the grandiose and sublime, reflecting his ongoing search for tranquillity. The resulting works invite viewers to engage with them openly, finding their own responses and interpretations.

Sinclair Webster grew up in Khartoum, Nairobi and Flanders, where he first began painting. He has exhibited widely, with solo exhibitions in Nairobi, Ypres and Roeselare in Belgium, Cambridge and Edinburgh. Whether depicting landscapes, figures or animals, his paintings are characterised by a strong awareness of spatial organisation, balance and structure.

At the heart of Sinclair’s practice is an exploration of how forms occupy and activate space, combined with the immediacy and intimacy of the dialogue between artist and image.

Exhibitions are now open!

Oxmarket are delighted to welcome back Martyn Jones with his exhibition - Recent Paintings in the Wilson Gallery. Working primarily in abstraction, Jones draws inspiration from the natural world and his experiences of everyday life.

Sinclair Webster will join us in our John Rank Gallery for his exhibition ‘Little White Lines’. His work draws on places and subjects with which he is familiar, including Africa, Sussex, and Yorkshire. People, animals and landscapes recur throughout his paintings.

From 29th September to 11th October
