A warm welcome back to

Sally Ann Stone originates from the South West of England and is currently based in Hampshire where she has been working professionally in photography for over 25 years.

Having recently taken early retirement from full-time lecturing at a Further Education establishment on a range of Photography, Art and Media based courses, Sally now enjoys the time to work on her own photography portfolio and in particular revisiting her interests in the process of ‘Cyanotype’ photography . Referred to as an ‘alternative’ photographic process, developed by Sir John Herschel during the mid 19th century, it is acknowledged as one of the earliest forms of photography. Recognisable by the blue and white hues which are the finished result of using UV sunlight and light sensitive chemicals during the exposure, Sally creates unique cyanotype representations of plants, collected during walks within the local environment, or grown in the garden. Acknowledging the seasonal changes in nature and availability of material with which to print with, Sally values merging the physical experience with the scientific process and the variables it can create. No two prints are the same.

Sally still enjoys being in the classroom environment where she currently teaches the cyanotype process to school children and adults at locally held workshops. Sally has exhibited her work nationally as an Associateship member of the Royal Photographic Society and is an active member of the RPS Visual Arts Group.

See Sally's work at the gallery 31st August - 28th September.

Don't forget we are OPEN today, Bank Holiday Monday.

Giving old things a new life

Did you know that many of the artists and makers at Artisan Gallery incorporate recycling and repurposing into their work?

Creativity doesn't always start with something new. Sometimes the most interesting materials are the things that have already had a life.

You’ll find:

Beautiful Bags made from old suits and clothing, transforming unwanted textiles into something stunning and useful.

Collage artwork created from vintage magazines, giving old images and printed paper a whole new story.

Decorated vintage plates, turning pre-loved pieces into unique works of art.

Repurposed windows, transformed into imaginative and characterful pieces.

Recycled glass used by our glass artists to create beautiful new works.

Recycled precious metals and gems used by our jewellers, giving valuable materials another life rather than always starting from newly mined resources.

We love the idea that something which might otherwise have been discarded can be transformed through imagination, skill and craftsmanship into something that someone will treasure.

And that's one of the wonderful things about buying handmade—you aren't just buying an object. You're often buying a story, a creative idea and a piece of someone's ingenuity.

Old materials. New ideas. Beautiful things.

Next time you visit Artisan Gallery, take a closer look. You might be surprised by what has been given a second life.

The perfect gift when you're not quite sure what to choose…

Buying a gift for someone who has everything can be tricky. What if you don't know their taste? What if they already have something similar?

That's where an Artisan Gallery gift voucher comes in.

Instead of choosing for them, give them the joy of choosing something they really love.

Our gallery is home to more than 20 local artists and makers, with everything from jewellery and ceramics to paintings, prints, glass, textiles and beautiful handmade gifts.

A voucher gives the recipient the opportunity to browse, take their time and find something that's just right for them. And because so much of our work is original or one-off, they could discover something truly unique.

Best of all, your purchase helps support local artists and makers and the cooperative that brings their work together under one roof.

So whether it's a birthday, anniversary, Christmas, thank-you—or simply a little treat for someone special…

Give the gift of choice. Give the gift of creativity. Give an Artisan Gallery gift voucher.

See it. Love it. Don’t leave it!

More times than we care to count, someone comes back to Artisan Gallery looking for something they spotted on a previous visit, only to discover that it has already been whisked away to its lovely new home.

And while we're delighted that another customer has fallen in love with it, we know it can be disappointing when you've gone back to find your favourite piece has disappeared!

That's the nature of an independent gallery. So much of what we sell is unique or one-off, made by local artists and makers. Once it's gone, there may not be another one just like it.

So if something catches your eye, makes you smile or you keep thinking about it after you've left...

Don't leave it!

You may well find that when you come back, it's already found someone else's wall, mantelpiece, shelf or jewellery box.

And that's part of the magic of buying original art and handmade work—you really are buying something special and individual.

See it. Love it. Take it home.

A little corner of creativity at Artisan Gallery.

One of the joys of visiting Artisan Gallery is discovering how completely different pieces can come together to create a beautiful display.

Here, colour, texture and craftsmanship all sit happily side by side. A striking octopus print brings a touch of the sea, while a delicate glass piece adds light and sparkle. The handmade ceramic vase brings a quiet simplicity, contrasted with the characterful figure holding a little bird.

And then there's that fabulous lamp, proof that practical objects can be works of art too!

This is what we love about the gallery. Our artists and makers all have their own individual styles, materials and ways of working, yet somehow their pieces can complement one another beautifully.

Art doesn't always have to match. Sometimes the most interesting combinations are the unexpected ones.

Come and have a browse—you never know what you'll find, or which pieces might just click together for your own home.

It’s the people that make Artisan Gallery so special.

Of course, the artwork is at the heart of what we do—but it’s the people behind the gallery that make it truly different.

We are a cooperative run by artists, for artists, and that means we work together as a team to create the gallery you see today.

From curating and displaying the work, to staffing the gallery, organising exhibitions, promoting our artists and keeping everything running behind the scenes, we all play our part.

There is no big corporation behind us. No distant management team. Just a group of local artists and makers who believe in supporting one another and creating a space where creativity can thrive.

Being a true cooperative means sharing the responsibilities, the ideas, the hard work—and the successes too.

It means knowing the person behind the counter may also be the person who made the painting, fired the pot, designed the jewellery or stitched the textile you've just fallen in love with.

And that's what makes a visit to Artisan Gallery different. And that's why we've been running for three years (Join us for our Anniversary Party on Saturday 5th September)

Come in, meet us, discover our work and support local creativity.

We're proud to be artists working together, for artists and for our local community.

A gallery run by 24 artists, for artists.

Artisan Gallery is a little different from your typical gallery.

We are a cooperative of 24 local artists and makers, working together to create a space where independent creatives can showcase and sell their work.

We don't have a big corporate structure behind us. We are the people behind the gallery. We take turns staffing the gallery, curate our own displays, look after the day-to-day running and work together to promote the artists we represent.

By sharing the costs and responsibilities, we make it possible for more local artists to have a physical gallery space and reach customers who might otherwise never discover their work.

And because we're all working independently, you'll find an exciting mix of styles, materials and disciplines—from painting and printmaking to jewellery, ceramics, textiles, glass and sculpture.

Many pieces are handmade and unique, so you never quite know what you'll discover.

When you buy something at Artisan Gallery, you're supporting real artists, real skills and a real local creative community.

Come and meet the makers at Artisan Gallery, Chichester.

24 artists. One cooperative. A whole lot of creativity.

Just a card.

Sometimes you don't need a big gift.

Sometimes a little card says everything.

Thinking of you, Happy Birthday, Thank you, Congratulations, I'm sorry, I miss you, Just because.

In a world of instant messages, emojis and notifications, there's something lovely about receiving a card chosen especially for you.

And when you buy an artist-designed card, you're doing a little more than sending a message. You're supporting the artist who created the artwork, helping keep creativity alive and giving someone a moment of joy.

So next time you're passing Artisan Gallery, pop in and choose a card.

It doesn't have to be anything more than a card.

Sometimes, a card is enough.
