Tangmere - Where the Past is Present

It is always nice to catch up with relatives f those who flew from Tangmere, and last Friday was no exception. Talking to a couple of visitors, Lee Seaborne, and his fiancé Gemma Pullen. They told me that his great-grandfather had flown from Tangmere. Did we have any pictures of 238 Squadron?
I asked for more information and was taken round to the Battle of Britain Hall where Eric Seabourne had his story on a panel.
Sadly, there are, as far as I know, no pictures of 238 Squadron, but enquiries are ongoing, But the couple enthused about Eric Seaborne and then discovered that on a panel nearby was Sgt William Silver. It is entirely possible that he is also related to Lee Seaborne, through his mother’s side of the family. More investigations are ongoing!

Three volunteers from our Wednesday team spent the day at Littlehampton, helping them to celebrate Armed Forces Day.

Located in a marquee, with Littlehampton Museum, the team were there to spread the news about our Museum and the pass out posters for Family Day, coming up in a little over a month, Sunday August 6th.

Manned by Alan James, Alan Moody and James Renwick the team saw almost 500 people pass through the tent, expressing their interest and taking leaflets.

With our van and banner outside there was a good take up of Family Day and Museum leaflets, with leaflets also handed out to passing visitors. The Museum counted 860 entries to the marquee by 4pm.

Each morning, weather permitting, Tangmere volunteers proudly raise eleven flags.

To remember countries whose pilots flew and fought from RAF Tangmere during WW2.

They are the flags of Australia, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Canada, Denmark, France, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, South Africa and the USA
