Our annual Youth Exchange project is based on a unique approach to combining cultural exchange with music-making of a high standard. This unique project was started in 2001 by Julian Gib
bons whose countless contacts with young musicians across Europe inspired him to found BISYOC. The enthusiasm and input from all involved have created an unforgettable and very special experience which has grown into a world wide community. BISYOC has travelled all over Europe, with its first exchange taking place at Bedstone College in Shropshire, UK and its travels has taken it to Spain, Austria, Germany, Malta, Norway and Macedonia. Through the years since it started, almost 800 young people from more than 30 countries have attended and made BISYOC the cultural and musical highlight of their summer. Whoever attends BISYOC brings with them a richness of experience from their home country. It is precisely this cultural diversity, the different ways of communicating, of making music, of feeling and not least the traditions from each person’s homeland which occupy an important place at BISYOC. Is there a song in your language or in your regional accent that you would fancy performing – either seriously or tongue in cheek? Have you already experienced the foot-tapping joyfulness of a ceilidh (folk dancing)? Ever sampled the gastronomical delights of a typical Romanian dish? The cultural exchange activities, organized by the participants themselves, enable them to share their talents just as much as the orchestral program.
