Founded in 1824, the Vista Alegre brand has achieved unparalleled recognition, making it one of the few Portuguese luxury brands worldwide.

Vista Alegre produces porcelain tableware, decorative pieces, giftware, hotelware, high quality glass and crystal. The Vista Alegre porcelain factory was founded in 1824, in Ílhavo, central Portugal, born from the dream of a visionary Portuguese gentleman. More than 175 years later, through a route that has produced a vast portfolio of products closely associated with the history and cultural life

of Europe, a merger took place between the Vista Alegre and the Atlantis companies, forming the largest national tableware and giftware group, and one of the largest in the industry worldwide: the Vista Alegre Atlantis Group. Nowadays, the branded pieces - always at the forefront of innovation and design – are featured at the tables of the most prominent personalities as well as several embassies and other institutions and state or individual organizations, being also represented in several international museums. Harmoniously combining tradition and modernity, Vista Alegre Atlantis continues to invest in partnerships with international designers and artists, young or already established, thereby contributing to the continuous improvement of the art of porcelain and crystal. The invitation to some of the foremost designers takes place regularly. The artists that helped define the unique character of Vista Alegre Atlantis include Christian Lacroix, Oscar de La Renta, Marcel Wanders, Karim Rashid, Bartek Mejor, Sam Baron, Carsten Gollnick, David Raffoul and Nicolas Moussallem, Joana Vasconcelos, Eduardo Nery, Pedro Calapez, , Nadir Afonso, Armanda Passos, Roberto Chichorro, Christian Ghion, Teresa Lima and João Vaz de Carvalho, among many others. With the Niemeyer collection of decorative plates, created in partnership with the Oscar Niemeyer Foundation, Vista Alegre pays tribute to the thinking and creative world of one of the greatest architects of the 20th century 🛒 https://bit.ly/4zDATYR.

Oscar Niemeyer’s architecture rejects the straight line, favouring the free and continuous curve as a central element, combining functionality with a poetic and sensual dimension. Niemeyer himself stated that the sinuous curves of his works were inspired by the body of his beloved, transforming the female figure into a metaphor for his architectural language. Both are depicted in an emotive manner in the set of drawings and quotes that illustrate the new Niemeyer collection.

Changing times bring changing habits and needs. Highly popular from the 1870s and 1880s through to the early 20th century, these moulded and relief-decorated porcelain pieces, featuring polychrome decoration and gold accents, were entirely hand-painted. They served to emphasise the status of their owners while adding a touch of humour and irreverence to the setting, inevitably bringing a smile to guests’ faces.
In this case, a helpful English gentleman takes on the role of a cigar holder, at a time when the British Ultimatum was still very much present in the collective consciousness.
