And so it begins…
Today, our Lancaster Bomber model started its next mission!

We carefully dismantled our much-loved model, ready for it to head off for a well-deserved refurbishment as part of Sky Stories RCAF project.

It’s not every day you get to take a Lancaster apart… 😅

This is the first step in an exciting project that will see our RCAF display grow and take flight, and bring Canada’s Air Force history to life for generations to come.

COME FOR THE FESTIVAL… DISCOVER A HIDDEN MUSEUM.

Looking for something a little different to do this Sunday?
The Nutana Legion Fall Festival is bringing together local vendors, live music, children's activities, food and plenty of community spirit — and downstairs, there's a whole museum waiting to be explored.

On Sunday, September 13, we will be opening our doors for a special FREE OPEN DAY, giving you the chance to explore our collection and discover some of the fascinating stories behind the artifacts.

Come for the pancakes. Browse the stalls. Listen to the music. And take a little journey through Saskatchewan's military history. And if you enjoy your visit, donations are always gratefully accepted — they help our volunteer team continue to preserve these stories for future generations. 🇨🇦

We might just be the best part of the day you didn't know was there. 😉

IT'S A FALL FESTIVAL — AND THE MUSEUM WILL BE OPEN! 🇨🇦

On Sunday, September 13, the Nutana Legion is throwing open its doors for a fantastic Fall Festival celebrating Legion Week — and we're delighted to be joining in!

For one day only, the Saskatoon Museum of Military Artifacts will be open to the public FREE OF CHARGE from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

So, if you've never visited us before, this is the perfect opportunity to come and have a look.

- Explore our collection of in excess of 8,000 military artifacts
- Discover stories from Saskatchewan and beyond
- See some of the museum's interactive exhibits
- Bring the family — there's lots happening throughout the Legion

And there's plenty more happening upstairs and outside, including:

🥞FREE pancake breakfast from 10–11 AM
🛍️ 40+ local artisan and small-business vendors
🎶 Live music from the Legion jammers
🎨 Children's crafts, face painting and sidewalk chalk
🍲 Homemade soup and chili from 11 AM–3 PM

Admission to the museum is FREE, although donations are always gratefully accepted and help us continue preserving and sharing Canada's military history.

THE ANSWER IS IN! Did you guess correctly?

The genuine original is the badge that looks almost completely smooth and polished!

At first glance, it certainly doesn’t look like the obvious choice — years of polishing have worn away much of its detail. But there’s a great clue on the reverse: it’s a genuine Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps cap badge.

So, if you picked the battered-looking, almost smooth badge… well spotted! And if you didn’t — don’t worry. That was the whole point of the challenge 😉

It’s not always about the artifacts…

Today, we’re celebrating a couple of additions to the museum that might not be quite as exciting as a piece of military history — but they’re making a difference behind the scenes!

Thanks to a grant from the City of Saskatoon’s Environmental Grant Program, we’ve been able to purchase new recycling bins and a water cooler for the museum.

These practical improvements will help us:
🌱 Reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill
♻️ Make recycling easier for our visitors and volunteers
💧 Reduce our reliance on disposable water bottles
🌎 Encourage more environmentally responsible practices
💚 Reduce our environmental footprint

We’re very grateful to the City of Saskatoon for supporting these improvements and helping us make our museum a little more environmentally friendly.

Because looking after our history also means looking after the future!

BIG THINGS ARE HAPPENING…..
Thanks to generous funding support, we'll be refurbishing our RCAF gallery as part of our new Sky Stories project — celebrating the remarkable stories of the airmen and women who served in Canada's Air Force, including the fascinating history of the Canadian Cree Code Talkers.

We are so grateful to Veterans Affairs Canada, Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority, the Dakota Dunes Development Corporation at Dakota Dunes Casino, and the Museums Association of Saskatchewan for their generous support and belief in this project. We'd also like to thank the RCAF Foundation / Fondation de l'ARC for their collaboration as we move forward.

Refurbishment work will begin this September, with the newly transformed gallery set to open in April 2027 — just in time for the RCAF's centennial. Stay tuned for more updates as this story takes flight!
