The Gordon Snelgrove Gallery is a crucial venue for new work by artists and curators both within the Department of Art and Art History and the wider community. Frequent public presentations by visiting artists, panels and screenings position it as an important hub in the arts ecology of Saskatoon. Additionally, the gallery curates The Department of Art and Art History Collection, consisting of sel

ect works from graduating students. Art from the collection is displayed throughout the Murray Building, the university library, a number of sites on campus and the gallery website. The gallery is located at 191 Murray Building on the University of Saskatchewan campus. It is typically open Monday to Friday, 9:30am to 4:30pm and closed weekends and holidays, but right now is closed to the public in deference to public health in response to the COVID 19 Pandemic.

“Every May, Just Like the Last”, a multi-channeled video exhibition and novella by Russian animator, filmmaker, and visual artist Sonia Neputeva is now on view at Gordon Snelgrove Gallery.

Thursday, August 6th - Saturday, August 15th, 2026. Gallery hours are Monday- Saturday, 10am-4pm.

Instead of presenting static objects behind glass, as is common in museological taxonomies, the exhibition at the Snelgrove Gallery invites visitors into the spaces where the film’s story unfolds through nine slow-moving channels of video projection. The scenes transport us into the atmosphere of an ordinary Russian city in late spring through digitally created 3D environments. Visitors are encouraged to move through the gallery at their own pace, exploring these spaces as if searching for someone who is no longer there. They can also stay longer to read excerpts from a novella that takes them deeper into the story of Sonia and Polina, or take a copy home.
