The Museum of Antiquities is proud to be co-hosting this special exhibition featuring artworks by the senior student sculpture class of the School for the Arts at the University of Saskatchewan. Visit the Museum of Antiquities and the Museum of Natural Sciences to see show beginning this Thursday, April 9.

Sight Site
April 9 – 16, 2026
Reception: Thursday April 9, 4:30 – 6:00pm @ Museum of Natural Sciences

Sight Site presents sculptural responses to the displays, artworks, and artefacts found at the University of Saskatchewan Museum of Antiquities and Museum of Natural Sciences. Showcasing artwork by Master of Fine Arts (MFA) and senior Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) students from the School for the Arts Senior Sculpture class, the artists created site-specific works that investigate, interact with, respond to, poke at, and converse with the two museums’ exhibits, sometimes with humour (because we need more of that these days!). The interventions engage with the existing exhibits to create dialogues between the art and museums’ collections. In doing so, the artwork creates new meaning and stories within each museum, and perhaps connections between the two sights/sites.

Participating Artists:
Jensen Canfield, BFA student
Shona Dietz, MFA student
Maryanna Hardy, BFA student
Kim Kargut, BFA student
Christie Keller, BFA student, BA Psychology
Jaye Kovach, MFA student

For her staff pick, Kelsey has chosen our plaster-cast statue replica of Pharaoh Psammeticus II (r. 595-589 BCE), the king of the twenty-sixth Dynasty of Egypt! Read below to find out why Kelsey chose this Egyptian artifact as her pick.
Psamtik II, also known as Psammetichus or Psammeticus in the Greco-Roman world, was a pharaoh who ruled in Egypt during the Late Period from 595-589 BCE. I chose this statue due do the significance of the pharaoh, as he was a part of the last native Dynasty to rule Egypt prior to the Persian conquest. Although many of his policies did not achieve their full results due to his early death, Psamtik II was heavily involved in a variety of political affairs, particularly the disputes of the Palestinian kingdoms and military campaigns in Kush. Under the command of Psamtik II, the Egyptians led a successful campaign into Nubia against the Kush*te king Aspelta.
