Artzi Stuff opened 18 years ago today. Apparently only 25% make it past the 15 year mark. I am glad I had the confidence in my "shop local" idea to keep going after 5 years of making very little income. The move to a bigger location with multiple windows in 2013 changed everything. Some of the artists and some customers have been with me for the ride since year one. Thank you to everyone involved with keeping Artzi Stuff going. This year also marks 30 years since I graduated from textile art school and started making silk scarves. That's a lot of scarves! If you have one I would love to see a photo of it posted in the comments. It is not always easy but I wouldn't trade this life and thank you for making it possible.

Sometimes I make little arrangements I just love. The green vases perfectly compliment the green in the oil painting although it doesn't show as well in my photo. This is where it all started! Joe Wilson needed a metal worker to turn his salmon designs into 3-D sculptures and turned to Craig Lambie, one of our store artists. They continued to collaborate using several of Joe's designs to create a variety of sizes of wall art until Craig's passing in 2018. I was delighted several years later when Joe reached out and told me he had found another metal worker to collaborate with namely RUGGID COAST. Artzi Stuff continues to sell a version of these salmon and other Joe Wilson designs. These 12 salmon are located at the bottom of the escalator in the walkway between the newer conference centre and Canada Place.

PSA to artists Although I have not done a craft show in 20 years I am getting daily emails inviting me to apply to craft shows. These are SCAMS as reported by Nuveau market and the Nanaimo Chamber of Commerce who have been imitated. Delete these emails and just got straight to a site if you are interested. Another repeated scam I get is "I want to by an anniversary gift for my wife and live in a different city. " If an offer to buy seems too good to be true it is. Sadly I spend far too much time sifting through scams. Take care, be safe!
