Saanich Historical Artifacts Society (S.H.A.S.) is a volunteer society dedicated to the preservation of our past for the future. The Society is dedicated to collecting, restoring, housing, and demonstrating artifacts from our rural past. We have one of Western Canada’s largest collections of working steam engin

es, tractors, agricultural machinery, and household and industrial artifacts. The chapel is available for weddings and memorials. The schoolhouse is available for receptions, meetings, etc. During the summer, the barbecue and park areas are available for group picnics etc.

Please note that Heritage Acres will be hosting a private event all day on Thursday, August 20.

Members and volunteers are still welcome to come to the site to work on projects; however, we ask that you park in the field rather than on site for the day.

If you need to drive into the village, please be mindful of our guests and the private event taking place.

We’re looking for volunteers to join us at Heritage Acres — and we’d love to have you be part of it!

Use your skills, hobbies, or curiosity to help bring local history to life. From working with antique machinery to supporting events and exhibits, there’s something for everyone. It’s a great way to meet people, learn something new, and be part of the community!

A children’s camera was recently found on site at Heritage Acres and has not yet been claimed.

We’d love to get it back to its owner! To make sure it finds its way to the right family, the owner will be asked to identify the camera as well as the other items that were found with it.

🍂🎃 Fall Fair is returning to Heritage Acres! 🎃🍂

Join us for one of our favourite weekends of the year as we celebrate the sights, sounds, and traditions of autumn at Heritage Acres.

Bring the whole family and spend the day exploring our historic grounds, meeting farm animals, riding the miniature trains, enjoying delicious food, and taking part in hands-on activities for all ages.

📅 September 19 & 20, 2026
🕘 9:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

Activities include:
🌽 Steamed corn
🚜 Steam tractors and boilers
⚙️ Blacksmith demonstrations
💧 Interactive games and water pump station
🌾 Threshing machine demonstrations and candy scramble
🪵 Sawmill demonstrations
🎶 Live music and dancing
🐐 Farm animals
🍔 Food vendors

🚂 Miniature train rides
10:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.
$3 per ride
(Operated by the Vancouver Island Model Engineers)

🎟 Admission:
$8 per person
Children 12 and under are free.
Train rides are not included in admission.

🐾 Dogs are welcome on a leash.

Whether you’re continuing a family tradition or visiting for the very first time, we can’t wait to welcome you to Heritage Acres for a weekend full of history, community, and fall fun.

We're thrilled to welcome the Esquimalt Atom Smashers Robotics Team from Esquimalt High School. This incredible group of students explores the world of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) by designing, building, programming, and operating competitive robots.

The Atom Smashers are passionate about learning, problem-solving, teamwork, and making robotics accessible to everyone.

Stop by their booth, meet the team, ask questions, and discover what the future of innovation looks like!

Be sure to stop by and visit our friends from the Saanich Police Historical Society during Children's Day at Heritage Acres!

The society already has a wonderful display inside Heritage Acres' main museum building, preserving and sharing the history of policing on the Saanich Peninsula. For Children's Day, they'll be bringing along one of their most popular attractions—their beautifully restored historical police vehicle.

Come say hello, take a closer look at this unique piece of local history, and chat with one of the knowledgeable volunteers from the SPHS team.

We're thrilled to welcome the British Columbia Aviation Museum to Children's Day at Heritage Acres!

Located right here on the Saanich Peninsula, the museum preserves and shares British Columbia's rich aviation history through its impressive collection of historic aircraft, engines, photographs, models, and artefacts.

Visitors can explore more than 40 aircraft, discover fascinating stories from Canada's aviation past, and even learn about the legendary Hawaii Mars, one of the most iconic water bombers in Canadian history.

Be sure to stop by their booth to learn more about this incredible local attraction and the important work they do to preserve aviation history.
