Wow — what an incredible weekend for DownsSteam!

Our inaugural overnight “Steam to the Cellars” winery tour behind the magnificent BB18¼ No.1037 “Peter Ford” has been an absolute success, with all of our guests enjoying an unforgettable journey through the Southern Downs and Granite Belt wine country.

This event involved many months of planning, coordination, and hard work behind the scenes, and it was fantastic to see both our passengers and crew having such an enjoyable and memorable experience together. From the spectacular climb up the range behind steam, to the wineries, accommodation, and country hospitality — the entire weekend was something truly special.

We’ve already received some fantastic feedback and seen some amazing photos and coverage from across the trip, and we want to sincerely thank everyone who supported and followed along with the adventure.

We’re also excited to announce that we will be running ONE more overnight steam tour this year on the 8th & 9th of August, featuring a new and revised format travelling all the way to Ballandean — a journey that is certainly not to be missed!

In addition, our major multi-day journey to Thallon in October is also shaping up to be another spectacular experience.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support DownsSteam and heritage rail operations across Queensland — we can’t wait to share more adventures with you soon!

This National Volunteer Week, we want to say a huge thank you to all of the incredible volunteers who help keep DownsSteam running.

From restoring and maintaining our historic trains, to helping at events, welcoming visitors, serving in the café, working behind the scenes, and sharing their knowledge and passion with others — our volunteers are the heart of DownsSteam.

Your time, dedication, skills and enthusiasm help preserve an important part of our railway heritage for future generations to enjoy. We simply couldn’t do it without you.

Thank you for everything you do — not just this week, but all year round. 🚂❤️
