I had a beautiful time installing this work with Aurora and hearing the stories around the work, I have a few moments to share here, around how the photographs included inform the work, and the significance of the inclusion of the thorns in the work, and the making process. 🔥

This exhibition is available to view at A Block Gallery, open during working hours. All welcome.

This is the first of a couple of workshop I’m running with Dr Tiffany Shafran for the Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery. The first is titled ‘statements and storytelling’ which explores how to talk and write about the storytelling within your creative practice, and the second workshop outlines how to pitch an exhibition. Check out for details and for booking links $20 a workshop, all welcome.

Dr Tarn McLean on Copenhagen greens, Bondi and early morning swimming at Icebergs. This is another moment from that early morning studio visit. Everything is magic in the early mornings. I adore these studio visits, and am still thinking about some of the conversations. ❤️

OPENS 22 May, all welcome!

Wrath & Mercy features new ceramic works that consider how emotional pain is held within the body and shaped through resistance. Using the thorn as a central analogy, the work traces how fear and insecurity take form over time, embedding themselves within perception and self-belief. Pain is both protective and limiting, it defends, yet also wounds. When avoided, it persists, shaping behaviour and reinforcing cycles of fear. The work explores discomfort, reflecting on acknowledgement as a way of moving through pain and the gradual unravelling of beliefs that sustain it.

It’s been brilliant seeing this body of work evolve! This is going to be a great show!

Moments from an early, post gym coffee catch-up/studio visit this morning with Tarn McLean... I absolutely didn’t warn her I was filming, but I wanted to capture her talking about the work - there’s radio on in the background, and I didn’t give her a microphone, but this is what these chats are - raw, unfiltered, energy filled and honest. Spending time with Tarn is like an injection of energy and I adore the way she speaks about her practice and these new paintings based on Archie Moore’s Kith and Kin.

In the studio with talking about the work for her upcoming show ‘Wrath and Mercy’ opening May 22, and how she secretly loves poetry and writes it. I loved this time with Aurora, and I felt like I’d been on a holiday after visiting that beautiful landscape.

I love this painting from the recent series, David felt like it was an outlier with its slightly different palette - it’s got the big energy.

More from the Garden Room, this soft work by Monica Usher, looks at florals that are growing on the fence line, considering a space that the garden makes. In his book ‘The Gardenist’, Michael McCoy talks about being enchanted by the spaces a garden creates, this is the feeling I get when I’m standing in front of this work. These works are available to view Tuesday - Friday 10-3pm at UniSQ Gallery in B block, Toowoomba Campus until 29 May.
