Cal Foster ARTIST BIO & WORK OUTLINE:
Foster is a multidisciplinary photographic artist whose practice involves the recovery and transformation of discarded, reclaimed, and vernacular photographic materials. Working across analogue and digital processes, collage, installation, and mixed media, Foster interrogates the photograph as both object and archive, exploring the instability of memory, authorship, and material history.

Using sourced negatives and abandoned photographic remnants, Foster splits, slices, tears, obscures, and reconnects images to displace and replace pre-existing memory. Through acts of fragmentation and reconstruction, photographs are removed from their original context and reimagined as new narratives, where absence becomes as significant as presence. Imperfection is embraced as a generative force; scratches, chemical deterioration, folds, and material interventions are not flaws to be corrected but traces that speak to time, loss, and transformation.

Doubled Fragments, Ink on Hahnemühle: Doubled Fragments considers degeneration as an act of transformation. By dividing and reconnecting photographic imagery, Foster unsettles the authority of the original image, allowing memory to fragment, shift, and reform. Working with interruption rather than preservation, the work embraces imperfection as a generative force, proposing that photographs are not fixed records but living objects capable of accumulating new meanings through loss, intervention, and reconstruction.

ARTIST FEATURE: Steph Fifi will be exhibiting their works at (de)Generate 08.08.26 amongst a stable of 30 artists & a killer lineup of live acts at revolverupstairs, curated for the darling degenerates. Link to tickets in bio 🎟️ come check it out!

Steph Fifi ARTIST BIO & WORK OUTLINE:

I feel like it can’t get more degenerate than going fully analog. It’s been a pleasure being forced to slow down and to be intentional with every shot. It makes me present, slows my mind and allows me to focus on capturing the moment in front of me.

Double Exposed Head - was actually an accidental first double exposure. It reminded me that humans are prone to accidents and errors all the time, we’re only human after all. Out of that accident came an unexpected surprise.

Park Bench - Finding joy in the little things like standing or hanging out at a park bench.

MUSIC SPOTLIGHT: Meet closekept1! Catch him at revolverupstairs on 8 August! Tix in bio 🎟️

Closekept is a Canberra-born, Melbourne-based producer and multi-instrumentalist crafting textural, melancholic electronic music. Drawing foundational influence from time spent in the UK scene, his sound shifts seamlessly across a spectrum of ELM, left-field, ambient, and downtempo. His music contrasts rhythmic complexity with fleeting melodies, immersing listeners in a textural push-and-pull of emotion.
