Naoshima Art Islands— Japan 🇯🇵
A place where art, architecture, and nature come together in such a unique way.
It wasn’t the easiest place to reach, especially staying in Takamatsu, but the ferry ride added to the experience. Getting to the Tadao Ando designed Chichu Art Museum felt almost like a pilgrimage, and arriving there was truly magical.
Sadly, photography isn’t allowed inside the museum, but we were completely wowed by the Monet room and the incredible James Turrell installation — spaces that stay with you long after you leave.
We also visited the newer Naoshima New Museum of Art and the fascinating Cai Guo-Qiang installation.
Beyond the major museums, the island’s many smaller art spaces and outdoor installations were full of whimsy, playfulness, and surprises. A beautiful reminder of how Japan can transform even quiet places into experiences of creativity and wonder.
