Brislington - a gracious Georgian building stands on the corner of George and Marsden Streets in Parramatta. It is the oldest existing dwelling house in the inner City of Parramatta and since 1983 has been a Medical and Nursing Museum for the former Parramatta Hospital.

Today Brislington Museum was happy to host a group of visitors from Stitch - a community social group for over 50s. The visitors were happy to delve into the changes in medical care in Parramatta from colonial days to 1980s. Volunteers Fred, Pat and Robyn enjoyed interacting with the group, providing stories and answering questions about our collections.

The cost of war is profound. Over 3,000 Australian nurses served in WWI alongside the ANZACS. They worked in confronting conditions, often close to frontlines, overwhelmed with casualties and horrific injuries.
While the term 'shellshocked' became used for returning men, trauma carried by the nurses was hidden and dismissed for decades.

Brislington will be part of the Australian Heritage Festival, highlighting the theme"Change": we offer a "now and then" insight into medical care in Parramatta from colonial days to the 1980s.
Open Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the festival.
Come along and explore 5 rooms of exhibits in our beautiful Georgian House, constructed in 1821 using the proceeds of a card game win by an ex-convict. Lots of stories spanning over 200 years of occupation!
