Today I had the privilege of visiting the Nara Prison Museum and meeting its Director, Kae Yasoda, together with one of the museum’s curators, who kindly translated for us throughout the visit.

It was fascinating to walk through this remarkable former prison and to see the similarities and differences between Nara and Pentridge — from the architecture and layout to the way the site is being preserved and transformed into a museum.

A huge thank you to the Nara Prison Museum team for such a warm welcome and for taking the time to show me around.

A detailed report on the visit will feature in the next Pentridge Prison Online Museum newsletter in a couple of weeks.

"The Prisoners' Action Group seeks to expose the ill-treatment, deprivation, humiliation, and brutality inherent in the Victorian penal system. (...)"

The Prisoners’ Action Group (P.A.G.) was first established at La Trobe University in 1972 as a result of the release from Pentridge Gaol of the "La Trobe Three".

By 1973 P.A.G. had organised rallies outside Pentridge to protest against the conditions of prison life and to bring them to the attention of the people.

The magazine Prisoners' Voice appeared six times yearly.

Donated by Barry York.
Held in Pentridge Prison online Museum Collection.
