You said only to call if it’s an emergency, right?

Well, it’s an EMERGENCE[Y].

Our latest exhibition brings together artists, scientists and collaborators from around the world to explore what emerges in urgent times. In an age marked by ecological collapse, technological acceleration, and social upheaval, adaptation becomes not only a biological imperative but a creative and ethical act.

EMERGENCE[Y] opens 6 June at Science Gallery Melbourne.

And that's a wrap on DISTRACTION. 🎮 🎨 💥 🧪👾🎯✨

This playful exhibition plugged into the streaming torrent of content to explore the places our brains go when we want to focus on anything but what we're supposed to be doing.

The gallery is now closed as we prepare for the installation of our next exhibition.

Tech is here to stay and careers as we know them are changing.

Over 5,300 students globally tuned in live to yesterday's Future Careers Forum at Science Gallery Melbourne centred around human-computer interactions.

It turns out there is a panellist for everyone.

📱 Want to create your own app? Meet Lex! He’s the founder and CEO behind the fun AI games app, Deckle.

🎮 Love gaming but not sure how to make a career out of it? Meet Jess! She’s helping neurodivergent teens find community through gaming.

🎧 Can’t decide between art and science? Maybe you don’t have to. Meet Fetle! She’s found the space where they overlap as a sound artist and coding musician.

🎨 Dream of having your work exhibited in a gallery? Meet Janine. She’s working creatively with technology as a digital artist.

Anytime a new technology emerges, people speculate that it will replace human acts of expression. Yet we continue finding ways to fight back and stay creative.

Exhibiting now, ‘Deviation Game’ pits humans against AI in a fun guessing game. One person will be chosen from the group to draw something in a way that a human would guess but an AI model would not.

Can you think outside the box? 📦

Play ‘Deviation Game’ by Tomo Kihara + Playfool as part of DISTRACTION open Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 5pm.

This game pits humans against AI.

The challenge is clear: One person will be chosen to draw something in a way that humans can guess but AI cannot.

Say you get tasked with the word ‘apple’. DO NOT DRAW AN APPLE. It’s too guessable to AI. How about Steve Jobs in his black turtleneck surrounded by grapes and a banana?

Think outside the box and join players from around the world in collectively uncovering the biases and blind spots in AI models.

‘Deviation Game’ by Tomo Kihara + Playfool is part of DISTRACTION open Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 5pm.
