What stays with you long after you’ve left an exhibition?

For many visitors, ‘We Proceed in the Footsteps of the Sunlight’ by Zohra Opoku is an experience that invites reflection, connection and a deeper consideration of identity, memory, ancestry, and belonging.

Join us for a one-day symposium and book launch exploring Opoku’s artistic practice in the context of her career survey exhibition, on view until 4 October 2026.

Through a series of panel discussions and critical reflections, the programme will unpack the themes that shape her work across Ghana, Germany and the wider African diaspora. The evening will also mark the launch of the exhibition monograph featuring contributions from curators, writers and cultural practitioners who helped shape the exhibition and its dialogue.

📅 Saturday, 6 June 2026
🕝 2:30 PM – 8 PM

Access is included with standard museum admission and is free for members with a valid membership card.

Attend the symposium and engage with the ideas, stories, and conversations that continue beyond the gallery walls.

What happens when the museum stays open after dark? ✨

Our youngest visitors turn it into an evening of adventure, creativity and storytelling magic.

From exploring The Stories That Ran Away exhibition to discovering surprises around every corner, our Night at the Museum was filled with life-sized forts, treasure hunts through the tunnels, creative play, and of course, plenty of pyjama fun.

Thank you to every young explorer (and their parents!) who joined us for this special evening. We can’t wait to welcome you back for the next adventure 🖤

Happy Africa Day!

From our rich cultural and food scenes to the complex histories that shape and challenge us, Africa is a continent of many stories held at once - layered, vibrant, resilient, and deeply connected.

Africa Day marks the founding of the African Union, a reminder of the shared history, humanity, and future that bind us together as Africans.

Today, we celebrate the beauty in our differences, the power of our creativity and the communities shaping the future of this continent across borders, languages and generations.

At Zeitz MOCAA, we believe in the power of African voices and storytelling to build understanding, connection, and belonging. Art reminds us that while our experiences may differ, our humanity is shared 🖤

What do you love most about being African? Share it with us in the comments and tell us where you’re from 👇🏽

Today we celebrate the important role museums play in preserving our collective heritage and creating spaces for cultural exchange, education, dialogue and community connection.

Observed globally each year on 18 May, International Museum Day highlights the impact museums have in shaping understanding, inspiring curiosity, and keeping stories alive for future generations.

At Zeitz MOCAA, contemporary African art continues to spark reflection, conversation, and imagination, inviting every visitor to engage with the many stories shaping our continent and beyond.

Here’s to the artists, thinkers, storytellers and visitors who continue to make museums living spaces of creativity, learning, and connection 🖤

During the 61st Venice Biennale, we gathered with our international community to honour this moment of African curatorial leadership on a global stage — while celebrating the creativity, collaboration, and shared vision shaping contemporary African art.

Together Zeitz MOCAA and Hazendal Wine Estate created moments of reflection and thoughtful exchange, grounded in connection, culture, and the people who make it all possible.

With the joyful taste of Hazendal’s new Bottelary Hills wine collection by Kiara Scott Farmer, we were proud to bring this special moment to life.
