Robben Island Museum Inspires Future Educators at Rosebank International Cape Town
Robben Island Museum had the honour and privilege of presenting a guest lecture to third-year Bachelor of Education students at Rosebank International Cape Town Campus as part of its ongoing commitment to public heritage education and community engagement.
The initiative was led by Mr Sikho Nkume, Library Intern at Rosebank International Cape Town, in collaboration with Ms Jo-Anne Campbell, Programme Coordinator for the Faculty of Education, with the aim of creating an engaging learning experience that connected students with South Africa's living history.
The session featured presentations by Mr Phumolang Simon Leholo, a former Robben Island political prisoner and Specialised Tourist Guide Officer, and Mr Luvuyo Ndzuzo, Programmes Officer at Robben Island Museum. Together, they shared powerful personal experiences and historical insights into Robben Island's legacy, including its role in South Africa's struggle for freedom, democracy, leadership, and human rights.
Students were afforded a unique opportunity to engage directly with heritage practitioners, ask questions, and gain a deeper appreciation of the historical significance of Robben Island beyond what is taught in the classroom.
