Charlie Chaplin...an Odd Fellow? 🎬🎩
Yep. That Charlie Chaplin.
The legendary actor, comedian and filmmaker joined the Independent Order of Odd Fellows in 1925. And that unexpected connection has made its way into our newest exhibit at the Warrensburgh Museum of Local History.
But it gets better.
Among the items on display is a piece of fabric from a pair of pants worn by Chaplin in his 1936 film Modern Times.

The Ghost of Old Bill Spencer — Chapter 2
Who was Warrensburg’s “Uncle Bill”?
In Chapter 2 of Jean Hadden’s The Ghost of Old Bill Spencer, we learn more about the man behind the local legend: his little cabin on Hudson Street, his odd jobs around town, his bottle of “Green River” wh***ey, his strong religious faith, and the neighbors who remembered him years later.
We’ve also added more to Meet the Characters, including Lemuel Woodward, on whose property Bill built his cabin, and the late Kate Maltbie, who remembered Bill as “a very nice old man.”

The Museum will not be open Saturday October 3rd but we will be open Sunday October 4th- Veteran’s Room only- we have many books for sale. Tickets for our ghost walk can also be purchased.

🍂 Coming to Warrensburgh for the World’s Largest Garage Sale this weekend?

The Warrensburgh-Thurman Historical Society is fortunate to have the support of local businesses that believe in our work and help us preserve and share the history of our communities. They support us throughout the year, and this busy weekend is a wonderful opportunity for us to support them in return.
Stop for a meal, browse the shops, pick up something you need, or discover a Warrensburgh business you haven’t visited before.
Our local businesses aren’t here for just one weekend. They are part of the community all year long.

Looking for a couple of ways to enjoy the season with friends, family and neighbors? Mark your calendars for these upcoming community events:
🎃 Halloween Party & Trail or Treat
Saturday, October 24 • 4–8 PM
Thurman Veterans Memorial Field, 311 Athol Road
Enjoy fun frights along the trail, pumpkin painting, games, food and drinks.
🍁 Harvest Dinner
Saturday, November 7 • 12 Noon
Thurman Baptist Church
Everyone is welcome to gather for a warm harvest meal and a little community fellowship.

Everyone seems to be on board with ghosties and haunts this October! 👻

Along with the Warrensburgh-Thurman Historical Society’s Shadows of Warrensburgh Ghost Walks on October 17, 24 and 31, there are a couple more opportunities nearby to explore local history with a paranormal twist.

On October 8, Lizzie Keays hosts a Dinner & Mini Ghost Hunt with the Howeport Paranormal Group.

On October 29, the Howeport Paranormal Group heads to the historic Glens Falls Senior Center for a special paranormal investigation and fundraiser.

And, of course, don’t forget to reserve your spot for Shadows of Warrensburgh!

Apparently, October has decided the dead have stories to tell. 👻
