From art fair to tomato harvest. 🍅

One of my COTA clients sent me this photo of her Roberto Castañeda pottery happily at work in its new home.

There’s something especially satisfying about beautiful handmade objects that aren’t simply admired — they’re used, enjoyed, filled, shared and woven into everyday life.

I absolutely love when clients send me photos of our artists’ work in play at home. Keep them coming!

Some work is meant to be seen slowly — and in person.
Over the past several weeks, I’ve had the privilege of spending time with Safoura Haghighi’s work and preparing for her Great Falls Studio Tour presentation.
Her paintings are rooted in Persian miniature traditions and shaped by poetry, symbolism, fine brushwork, pattern, and gold. They reward close looking in a way that photographs simply cannot fully capture.
So rather than show you everything here, I’d rather invite you to come and experience the work for yourself.

Coming to The Old Brogue's Snuggery / Katie's Coffee this October to help celebrate the GFS Studio Tour: The Queen and the Hoopoe by Safoura Haghighi.

In this new work, Safoura draws on the story in which the Prophet Solomon sends the hoopoe to the Queen of Sheba with a message.

Rather than illustrating only the narrative, Safoura focuses on the moment of encounter — the beginning of a dialogue between two worlds.

Look closely and you’ll find the qualities that make her work so distinctive: intricate pattern, foliage, figuration, delicate line work, and luminous touches of gold.

The word I keep returning to when I think about Safoura Haghighi and her work is edifying.

Over the past several weeks, Safoura has guided us through five paintings and the ideas held within them—possibility, ego, cultivation, hidden meaning and freedom.

This film is my personal reflection on the artist, the work and the sense of discovery this series has given me. Safoura creates paintings of extraordinary beauty, but she also leaves us with something meaningful to consider about ourselves and the world around us.

Which of Safoura’s five works has stayed with you most?

I’ll soon be sharing opportunities to meet Safoura and experience her original paintings in person.

From the first measured lines to the final touches of gold.
In works by Safoura Haghighi , beauty is built slowly—through precision, patience and countless decisions made by hand.
This video offers a glimpse into the creation of tazhib, the Persian art of illumination. An intricate design gradually emerges through delicate drawing, richly layered colour and luminous gold, transforming the page into something almost jewel-like.
The finished work may appear effortless, but every detail carries the evidence of time, discipline and devotion.

At first glance, Bird of Paradise appears to be an exquisite arrangement of flowers. Look more closely, however, and the garden begins to reveal its hidden life.
Among the layered blossoms and curling leaves, birds emerge—woven so naturally into the composition that discovering them becomes part of the experience of the work.
In this video, Safoura Haghighi introduces the painting and explains how its birds and flowers come together in a celebration of nature, beauty and harmony.
How many birds can you find?
